Carrollton, GA - The season started on a good note for the UWG volleyball program at the 2013 UWG Invitational, as the Wolves swept the afternoon session of Day 2 with a 3-0 win over Notre Dame College followed by a 3-1 victory against Georgia College in the finale.
The wins give the Wolves a 3-1 start to the 2013 season after a split on the first day of action at the UWG Invitational. West Georgia beat King in their opening match of the tournament, then fell to Malone in the final match of the first day of action at The Coliseum.
Wolves 3, Notre Dame College 0
West Georgia opened their second day at the UWG invitational with a battle against the Falcons of Notre Dame College. NDC took the Wolves deep into each set, but UWG prevailed moved above .500 in the early part of the season with a 3-0 victory.
For the match, the Wolves had 50 kills as a team, including 15 each in the first two sets. The opening set was solid for the UWG offense, as West Georgia hit .429 as a team. For the day, UWG hit .427, including just nine attack errors. The Wolves used that strong attack to win the first set 25-22.
In the second set, West Georgia had the most errors of an set in the match, committing six hitting errors that kept the game close. But in the end, the Wolves pulled away for a 25-23 win with a .237 team hitting percentage. The final set was all UWG, as the Wolves had 20 kills with no errors and a .667 hitting percentage to take the set and the match with a 25-18 victory.

Wolves 3, Georgia College 1
In the finale of the 2013 UWG Invitational, West Georgia took on first-year program Georgia College. The Bobcats had turned some heads over the weekend, taking a set each from Valdosta State and Malone before also taking a set from the Wolves.
West Georgia had a hot-and-cold match against the Bobcats, winning the first two sets with relative ease before falling in the third set. West Georgia had 13 kills at a .114 pace in the first set, but allowed Georgia College just five kills and forced five errors to take the victory.
The second set was stronger for UWG on the attack, as West Georgia hit .379 as a team and committed just three hitting errors en route to a sound 25-15 victory. But that was short-lived, as the Wolves fell 25-21 in the third set. That woke up the Wolves, as UWG jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the fourth set before cruising to a 25-17 victory.
Reul had another 16-kill performance in the match and senior #
Melissa Holt# had her second 20-dig match, collecting 23 against the Bobcats. Reul had a double-double, adding 11 digs to the tally. #
Amanda Miller# had 46 assists in the match for a second-straight 40-assist performance.
The Wolves will hit the road on Tuesday evening, taking on the Montevallo Falcons in a matchup against the former Gulf South Conference foe.
