Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves look to rebound after three losses in their last four games this weekend, playing the only two tournament-eligible teams that will not be in the 2015 Gulf South Conference tournament. West Florida is currently in last place in the GSC standings with a 3-17 record on the year. This will be the 46th meeting between the two teams, with West Georgia holding the advantage in the series, 25-20. UWG won the most recent meeting, 82-65 in Carrollton on January 12.
The two teams are set to tipoff from the UWF Field House on Thursday evening at 8 p.m., or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
UWG Breakdown
The West Georgia Wolves will come into the final three games of the season looking to continue its breakneck speed offensive attack, but to supplement with a solid mix of defense as well. The Wolves lead the Gulf South Conference in scoring, averaging 87.0 points per game on the year. Sophomore Deonta Stocks also leads the GSC in scoring individually, putting up more than 22 points per game. Stocks now has 974 career points at UWG, needing just 26 to become the 10th player in school history to surpass 1,000 points.
Abreu and Higginbotham
Senior points guards
Alex Abreu and Thomas HIgginbotham are an amazing 1-2 punch at the point for the Wolves. The pair have combined for 179 assists on the season, and Abreu alone has 111. He is in the top-50 in the country in assists per game and Higginbotham leads the nation in assist-turnover ratio. Abreu and Stocks also are the top two three-point shooters in the GSC in terms of shooting percentage.
Matchup to Watch
The first matchup between the Wolves and Argos was a lopsided victory for UWG in Carrollton, but the Wolves have won just three games since losing
Marcus Dortch. West Georgia's ability to shoot from three-point range or the ability of West Florida to contain the top three-point team in the GSC will be a determining factor Thursday.
