Carrollton, GA - A four-match homestand ended Tuesday evening for the West Georgia Wolves against the Alabama Huntsville Chargers, as the Wolves fell 3-1 to the Chargers at The Coliseum.
The match was the first in the second round through the Gulf South Conference, but was the final match before the 22-team GSC/SSC South Region Crossover in Orlando, Fla. this weekend. The loss moves West Georgia to 4-14 on the year and 1-10 in GSC play, while the Chargers move to 13-5 overall and 7-4 in conference action.
West Georgia opened the match with one of their top individual sets of the year, as UWG had 12 kills with a .323 hitting percentage.
Jaida Allen led the UWG offensive attack with four kills in six attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. The Wolves moved well and hit well with both setters in the frame, with
Kelcie Zimmer leading the way with five assists. Freshman

Tessa Watson was all over the court with eight digs in leading the Wolves to a 25-17 victory.
The Wolves started out the first set with an 8-3 lead, then scored nine of the next 14 points to extend the lead to 17-8. Allen closed out the set with a kill on the final point to give the Wolves a 1-0 advantage.
In the second set, UAH took advantage of nine UWG errors en route to a 25-17 victory, then powered past the Wolves with a 16-kill effort in the third set, winning 25-18. In the final set, the Chargers took advantage of eight West Georgia errors, winning 25-12 to take the match by a 3-1 count.
Defensively, the Wolves were led by Watson and freshman
McKenna Wharton, with Watson delivering on 19 digs and Wharton 17. Zimmer and Fleming combined for 38 assists in the match.
The Wolves will take on Embry-Riddle, Rollins and Florida Tech this weekend at the GSC/SSC South Region Crossover, playing in the Orlando Sports Center on Friday and Saturday.
