Carrollton, GA- After completing the first half of GSC match play, the Wolves are now headed to Orlando, FL, to compete in the South Region Crossover against one of the toughest Division II conferences: the Sunshine State Conference. Many of the teams in this conference have had to postpone conference matches and practices immediately preceding the crossover due to Hurricane Matthew. It will be a tough but substantial opportunity for the Wolves to get a few regional wins.
Embry Riddle at a Glance
The Eagles are currently 6-7 overall as they approach the tournament. They are ranked 10th in the SSC with a 2-4 conference record. Embry Riddle is classified as a provisional member of the SSC, meaning that they cannot compete in post season championship play as they are still in a transition period of entering the conference. The Eagles run a 6-2 offense with Jordan Nakayama and Alyssa Rudd splitting setting time. Junior outside hitter Paola Virella leeds the offense with 104 kills and 2.21 kills per set.
Rollins at a Glance
Rollins is ranked 8th in the SSC with a 1-3 conference record and a 7-7 overall record. They finished with an overall record of 11-19 in the 2015 season and did not advance to SSC tournament play. Mika Robinson leads the Tars in her first season as Head Coach this year. Rollins' offense is led by a pair of junior outside hitters, Bri Civiero and Shannon McDonough, with 206 and 233 kills respectively. McDonough averages an impressive 4.31 kills per set and ranks 3rd in the conference for kills.
Florida Tech at a Glance
Florida Tech is ranked last in the SSC with a 0-5 conference record and a 2-11 overall record. The Panthers finished the 2015 season with a 4-12 conference record and did not advance to conference championship play. Head Coach Amy O'Brien leads the Panthers in her 5th season at Florida Tech. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Germaine leads the Florida Tech offense with 125 total kills and 2.78 kills per set. Junior libero Becca Bower leads the defense with 223 digs. She is also ranked 3rd in the conference with an impressive 4.85 digs per set.
