Carrollton, GA- The Wolves continue GSC play on the road this weekend after a tough loss at North Alabama Tuesday night. They are set to play West Florida on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
West Florida is ranked number one in the conference with a 9-1 GSC record. A pair of seniors, Corisha Smith and Kathryn Torre, lead the offense with 193 and 197 kills. Head Coach Melissa Wolter runs a 5-1 offense with junior setter Monique St. Cyr. She is currently ranked 3rd in the conference for assists with 9.82 assists per set. Senior Tori Martella leads the defense with 394 digs, leading the conference with 4.99 digs per set. This will be the second match up between the teams after UWG lost the first in Carrollton.
Valdosta State is ranked 5th in the conference with a 6-5 GSC record. The Blazers rank in the top 5 in 3 categories: 4th in kills, 1st in blocks, and 1st in digs. Senior Susanna Peonia leads the offense with 273 kills and 3.59 kills per set. Freshman middle blocker Kayla Widera leads the GSC in blocks with an average of 1.04 blocks per set. The Blazers' tough defense will be tough to match at their place. The Wolves lost their first match up in Carrollton in 4 sets.
