Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves continued a four-match homestand on Friday evening at The Coliseum, falling in Gulf South Conference action to the Christian Brothers Lady Buccaneers in straight sets, losing 3-0 on their home court.
Set One - CBU 25, UWG 13
The two teams were on opposite ends of the spectrum in the opening set on Friday evening, as the Lady Bucs had 15 kills at a .458 hitting percentage as compared to the Wolves' five kills at a .191 hitting percentage. West Georgia was led by freshman
McKenna Wharton, who had three kills and a block in the set, while Christian Brothers had two player with four kills. Mary Kathryn Miller led the way with four kills on six attempts and no errors for a .667 hitting percentage.
Set Two - CBU 25, UWG 19
Head coach
Trina Braden went back to the middle in the second set, as the Wolves kept the set close throughout with
Lindsey Thomas and
Jaida Allen leading the way for UWG with three kills each. But five different CBU hitters had at least two kills in the set, led by Mollie Wadsworth, who had four kills to lead CBU to the victory and a 2-0 lead in the match. For the second-straight set, the Lady Bucs held a 5-1 advantage on service aces to take the lead.
Set Three - CBU 25, UWG 17
In the third set, the Wolves had 11 kills, the most of any of the three sets, but CBU turned up the heat in the hitting department, hitting .522 for the set with 14 kills.
Paige Berriochoa and
Autumn Burnette stepped to the forefront in this set with three kills each.
The Wolves will take on the Union Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in the final match of a four-match homestand, with the first serve set to commence at 2:00 p.m.
