CARROLLTON, Ga. – Six West Georgia standouts were named Wednesday to the 2019 All-Gulf South Conference Football Team. Four UWG players claimed first team slots in the balloting of the league's head coaches. Additionally, two more Wolves were voted All-GSC Second Team.
Three of UWG's First Team picks came from the defensive unit. A trio of seniors earned the honor: linebacker Korie Rogers, corner Latrell Gibbs, and tackle Auzoyah Alufohai. Offensively, senior wide receiver John Hurst was the Wolves' only All-GSC First Team honoree.
West Georgia's All-GSC Second Team picks were both special teams performers. Both are sophomores. Return specialist LaPerion Perry, and long snapper Joe Skinner were voted to the squad.
Rogers, a senior from Buford, is a repeat selection on the All-GSC First Team. Beyond last year's all-conference recognition, Rogers was also chosen D2CCA All-Region First Team and All-America Second Team in 2018. Gibbs, from Kennesaw, Alufohai of Acworth, and Hurst from Milton are all first-time honorees from the Gulf South Conference.
Skinner, a Carrollton native, is on the All-GSC Team for the first time. For Perry, this year's honors are added to the lengthy list received by the LaGrange native in 2018. A year ago he claimed All-GSC and All-Super Region 2 honors, and he was voted to the Don Hansen All-America Third Team.
