Wolves Fall in Road Contest in Tennessee

Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. - A second half turnaround handed the West Georgia Wolves a loss on Thursday evening in Cleveland, Tennessee, as the 22nd-ranked Lee Flames powered past the Wolves by an 84-78 final in Gulf South Conference play at Walker Arena.  

Oronte' Anderson and Michael Zabetakis led the Wolves to an early 10-7 lead from Walker Arena, with the pair picking up four points each in the first four minutes of the contest. Seth Brown-Carter picked up the pace in the next four minutes with five points, as the Wolves built their lead to 20-13 with 11:50 left in the first half. The Wolves, pushing the pace for the bulk of the first half, built as much as a 14-point advantage in the opening period, leading 35-21 with just over three minutes left in the period. 

Over the final four minutes of the first half, the Flames went on a 10-7 run, but a three-pointer from Kadeim Jones with 35 seconds left in the half gave the Wolves a 42-31 lead heading into the locker room at the break. Jones led the way for the Wolves in the opening period with an 11-point effort. 

In the second half, the Wolves kept the Flames at bay over the first 10 minutes. Lee made two runs, cutting the West Georgia advantage to six points twice in that span, but every time the Flames would get close, UWG would hit a shot and push the lead back out. The Flames kept pressing, shooting 48 percent from the field in the second half while West Georgia only shot 32 percent, but the Wolves held onto the lead until the 4:39 mark of the second half. 

At that point, Lee went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes, leading West Georgia 79-69 with just over two minutes left in the game. The Wolves cut the Flames' advantage to four at 79-75 with just over 30 seconds left. After Lee hit both free-throws on teh ensuing possession, Seth Brown-Carter buried a three-pointer with 25 seconds left to cut the lead to three at 81-78. 

Brown-Carter led the way with 20 points, including 12 in the second half, for the Wolves. Jones poured in 18, Anderson had 15 and Keshawn Heard added 10 for the cause. West Georgia will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Alabama Huntsville Chargers in the first home game at The Coliseum in two weeks.
