CARROLLTON, Ga. – The UWG men's basketball team secured their second straight win after an 86-76 victory over Auburn Montgomery Wednesday night.
A huge offensive second half propelled the Wolves over the Warhawks as UWG shot 59.4% from the floor in the half and outrebounded AUM by 12.
The two-week layoff seemed to effect West Georgia to begin as the Warhawks blitzed the Wolves and forced a timeout with the score at 14-4 five minutes into the game. UWG started to get in the flow of things with a couple of buckets from Jalen Sasser and Seth Brown-Carter that brought West Georgia within six. AUM got their lead back to 10 before a Kadeim Jones jumper capped off a 7-0 run for UWG that cut the deficit to three with 1:29 left in the half. The two teams traded buckets for the rest of the half and sent us into halftime with the Warhawks up 37-33.
West Georgia struggled offensively in the first half as they shot 38.2% from the field and 27.3% from three.
The second half started out very competitively until an 8-2 run from the Wolves tied the game at 47 six minutes into the half. About two minutes later, Jalen Sasser gave UWG their first lead of the game with a layup on a nice dime from Seth Brown-Carter. Over the next six minutes, there were six lead changes until West Georgia used a massive 3:51 minute 16-3 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 80-69 with just 2:17 remaining in the game. Auburn Montgomery didn't lay down and used a quick 7-0 run to make it a four-point game with 56 seconds left before the Wolves responded with a 6-0 run that ended the ballgame.
Seth Brown-Carter led the Wolves offensively with a team-high 28 points on 56% shooting and six rebounds while Jalen Sasser scored 20 points on 82% shooting and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. West Georgia will be back in action this Saturday for a home conference matchup against Montevallo.
