Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - For the third straight match, the University of West Georgia soccer team finished in a draw, fighting the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers to a 1-1 finish on Friday night in Charger Park.
Catherine Reeves got things going early for the Wolves (5-5-4, 3-3-4 GSC) , as in the ninth minute of the match, she took a cross from teammate
Lauren O'Neill and used her head to find the back of the net, giving the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.
It would be a short lived lead for the Wolves, however, as Hayley Bedingfield cleaned up a deflection from a Chargers (3-6-5, 2-4-4 GSC) free kick, evening the match at 1-1 heading into half.
The Wolves lead the half in every offensive category with six shots, four on goal, and the lone corner kick of the half.
Defense shined for the Wolves in the second half, holding the Chargers to just three shots on the half, with just one on goal. West Georgia also dominated the charge offensively putting up 10 shots in just the second half alone, with five being on goal.
The Wolves had multiple chances late in the half as
Delaney Kewin,
Sadie Prince, and
Janaisia Smith all put shots up in the last 10 minutes, but none could find the net, ending the match in a draw.
West Georgia finished the contest with 16 shots, which is the third straight match with 10+ shots, putting nine on target. The Wolves also turned in their sixth clean sheet this season, with
Haley Brinkman having to make just two stops on the afternoon.
West Georgia will now travel to Livingston, Alabama to take on the West Alabama Tigers. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Tiger Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
