Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia Baseball came up short in game one of the series with the Montevallo Falcons, dropping game one by a score of 10-3 on Friday night.
Ezra Brown made the start on the mound in game one of the series, going four innings, allowing four runs, nine hits, two walks, and striking out three.
After neither side scored in the first, Logan FInk got the Wolves (23-19, 12-15 GSC) on the board in the top of the second, blasting his seventh home run of the season over the left field fence for a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons (34-12, 17-10 GSC) immediately answered in the bottom of the second, striking for three in the inning on four hits, all coming before the Wolves could record an out, sending us to the third trailing 3-1.
Through the next three innings, the Wolves could only muster one base runner, coming on a two out walk in the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Falcons got back on the scoreboard thanks to a solo home run from Kuchinski, chasing
Ezra Brown from the game. Dominic Murgo was the first arm out of the pen for
Jeff Smith in the fifth, giving up one run after coming in, and the Wolves found themselves trailing 5-1 going to the sixth.
In the seventh, the Wolves left the yard again, this time coming off the bat of
Collin Moore. Later in the inning,
Jackson Webb came through with runners in scoring position, as he sent an RBI double into the gap scoring another run, making the score 5-3 going to the bottom of the seventh.
Austyn Wright would get the call from the bullpen in the eighth inning after Murgo got one out, but left runners at the corners. The first batter he faced sent a two RBI double into the gap. Two passed balls in a row allowed the third run of the inning to come across, and after another walk in the inning,
Jeff Smith would go back to the bullpen, this time bringing in
Jenson Barker to get the final out in the eighth. The first batter took Barker out of the park, extending the lead to 10-3. Barker would get a groundout to end the long eighth inning, with the Wolves needing seven in the ninth to stay alive.
In that ninth inning, the Wolves were sat down in order, as Montevallo took game one.
The series will conclude on Saturday with a double header beginning at 2p.m. EST.
