Wolves Set For Two Conference Matchups Against Royals and Governors This Week

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Volleyball team is set to host conference foe, the Queens Royals on Thursday Night at 6:00 p.m. and travel to Clarksville, Tennessee for a conference matchup against the Austin Peay Governors on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

UWG (8-6, 1-1 ASUN) looks to capitalize on their fast start in a home and away Atlantic Sun Conference slate this week, against the Queens Royals (4-9, 1-1 ASUN) and Austin Peay Governors(1-12, 0-2).

West Georgia is coming into these matchups off a productive weekend splitting matches in Florida against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast. By starting their conference slate with a .500 start, this has put the Wolves in a good position to create momentum for their upcoming matches.

The Wolves, whose win over Stetson last Friday was the first conference win at the Division I level for any program at UWG, have been generating early success off their high-tempo offense led by Zoë LaBreche, Mary Morgan Formby, and Cason Callaway. LaBreche leads the team with 153 kills with Formby not far behind with 145, and the duo has been the driving force for this team's overall success. Cason, a graduate student setter, has 464 assists on the year, is second in the ASUN in assists per set.

"Queens is coming off a big win at Stetson this past weekend and will come in with a lot of urgency," said head coach Kara Hellmann. "It's a quick turnaround for us to hit the road and travel to Clarksville on Friday. Our team is up for the challenge and will be prepared to face a hungry Austin Peay team in our matchup on Saturday."

Queens is coming into this matchup after a conference win against the Stetson Hatters, the Royals are looking to add to their win total on Thursday. The Royals are led by ninth year head coach Hannah Long and on the court, led by Alleigh Johnson and Kendall Buish. Johnson, leads the team with 145 kills and Buish leads the team with 301 assists on the year.

Austin Peay is coming into this matchup searching for their first conference win after falling short against Bellarmine. The Governors are led by 10th-year head coach Taylor Mott. Austin Peay's key contributors are Sarah Carnathan and Maggie Duyos. Offensively, Caranathan leads the team with 100 kills and Duyos leads in the assist category with 165 on the year.

"We are excited to be back on our court and celebrate our faculty and staff in our annual appreciation match." concluded Hellmann.
