12/5/2024 11:30:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The 2025 UWG Softball Season is just around the corner, and today, the UWG Department of Athletics announced the complete 2025 schedule, the first at the Division I level and the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The Wolves look to build momentum into a historic season and the third under head coach Kristy Burton, and it all gets underway in Boiling Springs, North Carolina on February 7.

"We are excited for this transition into the ASUN this spring and looking forward to being back on the field," Burton said. "We face a ton of high-level competition in and out of conference this season and we are eager to rise up in our first year in Division I softball."

West Georgia's inaugural Division I action is at the Runnin' Bulldog Classic hosted by Gardner-Webb. The Wolves will play games against Drexel and Gardner-Webb on Friday, followed by a game against Howard and a second matchup with the host Gardner-Webb.

Softball Schedule GraphicFollowing a road game at Mercer, the Wolves then head to Chapel Hill to take on Maryland, Georgetown and a pair of games against Wagner at UNC's tournament. The Wolves then go to Samford on February 25 and then to Youngsville, Louisiana for five games in a three day stretch at the Mardi Gras Mambo. That event features games against Southern, Jackson State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, and Houston Christian.

March 4 brings UWG home for the first time in the Division I era as UWG hosts Jacksonville State in a 6 p.m. first pitch.

The final early-season tournament is set for the weekend of March 7-9 in Atlanta and hosted by Georgia State, but those opponents remain to be determined.

West Georgia then goes to Kennesaw State and returns home to open Atlantic Sun Conference play with a three-game set against Queens that opens with a doubleheader on March 15. UWG stays home following that series to host Mercer and then goes on the road for consecutive weekends for ASUN series at North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast.

Eight home games then come to University Stadium as UWG hosts Troy in a midweek doubleheader on April 2 before taking on Jacksonville and North Florida in ASUN series.

After a trip to Queens, UWG hosts UAB in a midweek doubleheader and then hosts Florida Gulf Coast for the home finale on April 26-27. The regular season then wraps up with a return trip to Jacksonville State and a three-game set at Stetson.

The Atlantic Sun Championships begin on May 6 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama. The top 10 teams in the league reach the tournament.

"We will need as many fans as we can get in the stands at home and on the road. We hope to see our fans soon," Burton concluded.
