CARROLLTON, Ga. - After two weekends away from home in ASUN play, the UWG softball team is back home this weekend, hosting Stetson in a three-game, Easter weekend series in league play.
THE SCHEDULE
West Georgia (11-25, 3-6 ASUN) is in the midst of a five-game skid as they welcome Stetson (22-15, 7-2 ASUN) to University Softball Field.
The bats have cooled off for the Wolves as they are batting .189 in those five games combined and have been outscored 43-16 in the streak. UWG has just one home run in the last five games after hitting 20 in the first 31 games of the season.
It's not an easy task to get the bats going as Stetson rolls in with a 4.05 team ERA and a 3.86 ERA through nine league games. Their conference-only ERA is second-best in the league.
UWG has a slightly better average at home than on the road, and head coach Kristy Burton will look for the return home to jump start the offense. Jenna Samuel enters as the Wolves' leader with a .402 average and 26 RBIs. Ella Oswalt continues to lead the team in home runs with six, although all six of her home runs came in the month of February. Oswalt is second on the team in average at .270 while Samuel is second in home runs with five.
Samuel also has been getting on base via the walk as she has nine walks in nine league games and is third in the ASUN in on-base percentage at .521.
In the circle, UWG is led by Calli Hardison and Cacie Cutright. Hardison leads the team with a 4.78 ERA while Cutright is just behind her with a 4.81 ERA. Cutright, however, has a 3.07 ERA in three conference appearances, posting the eight-best conference only ERA.
The lowest conference-only ERA in the league is held by Stetson's Hayley Arnold at 1.08. Arnold has a season ERA of 3.04 which also leads the Hatters. Ava Braswell has the most innings pitched on the Hatters, tossing 94.2 innings with a 3.18 ERA.
Stetson's offense is batting .316 as a team, and is led by Nicole Edmiaston with an astounding, league-best .486 average with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs. As a team, the Hatters have slugged 50 home runs which ranks 27th in the country and second in the ASUN behind Austin Peay.
The series begins Friday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the final game set for Saturday 11 a.m.
