Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Tennis team dropped their first match of the season on Friday after a 4-3 loss to the Young Harris Mountain Lions.
UWG (2-1) got off to a fast start in the match, winning the doubles point after a 6-4 win from Andrea Medel/Sophie Mnich, a 6-0 sweep from Rebeca Lopez/Futaba Saito, and a 6-3 win from Karla Menedez/Luna Mouton.
Mnich got the nod for No.1 singles and fell in two sets to Young Harris' Simone Mercier, (6-1, 6-4).
Coach Rhonda Bush penciled in Medel for No.2 singles. The graduate student fell in straight sets to the Mountain Lions' Emily Bush, (6-2, 6-1).
Lopez and Saito competed in No.3 and No.4 singles and they both dropped their first matches of the season in straight sets to Luciana Bejarno and Viviana Gomez.
Menedez and Stanfield picked up the Wolves' only singles wins. Menedez picked up a win in straight wins, (6-4,6-1) over Holly Ashford while Stanfield secured a (7-6, 7-5) win over Meghna Mallath.
West Georgia will be back in action on February 21 when they open up conference play against AUM.
