CARROLLTON, Ga. - Tennis is often seen as an individualistic sport, but not in the world of collegiate tennis. As the UWG women's tennis team kicks off their season next week, we look at the projected doubles matchups.
Â
"I believe that each player's personality has contributed to creating a great team. I look forward to seeing how it is reflected on the court when we begin our season next week," said head coach
Rhonda Bush.
Â
Doubles teams are about strategy and chemistry, which is why
Sophie Mnich and
Andrea Medel will lock in the line one doubles. Mnich and Medel have shown that communication is key to success.
Â
Teamwork and precision are two words that describe
Karla Menendez and
Luna Mouton. The duo is playing their third year as partners which has led to understanding each other's moves.
Â
"The coordination that Karla and Luna has shown in their time as doubles partners and even leading up to this season has been magical to watch," stated Bush.
Â
The number three spot is filled with two new faces for the Wolves.
Rebeca Lopez and
Futaba Saito form a very promising doubles team in the third line. Their complementary playing style elevates their game, making them a formidable presence on the tennis court.
Â
The pairings of Mnich and Medel, Menendez and Mouton, along with Lopez and Saito, promise exciting and strategic matchups, and can be seen on display for the first time this season on Monday, February 5 as the Wolves host Point at 11 a.m. and Wallace State at 3 p.m. at Sunset Hills Country Club.
