CARROLLTON, Ga. – The UWG tennis team returns home tomorrow to open Gulf South Conference play with a 2 p.m. first serve against 18
th-ranked Auburn Montgomery at Sunset Hills Country Club.
West Georgia (2-1, 0-0 GSC) most recently dropped a 4-3 decision against Young Harris on Friday, and now face a tough test to open league play against Auburn Montgomery (2-2, 2-0 GSC).
In the Young Harris match, the Wolves got the doubles point, and singles wins from
Karla Menendez in fifth singles and
Callie Stanfield in sixth singles.
AUM enters after a seven-day break after Friday's match in Memphis against CBU was postponed. The Warhawks last match was a 5-2 defeat at sixth-ranked West Alabama, and their other loss was against seventh-ranked Columbus State. AUM's wins came against Middle Georgia State and Shorter.
Sophie Mnich played top singles for UWG last Friday, and she expects a tough test in top singles against AUM as the Warhawks' Estefania Garcia is 3-1 on the season.
Mnich is also 2-0 in doubles play, and has teamed up with
Andrea Medel and
Lea von Kozierowski on the season. Von Kozierowski did not play against Young Harris, but she was head coach
Rhonda Bush's line-one singles selection in the win Wallace State.
Karla Menendez and
Callie Stanfield are the only Wolves with 2-0 records in singles play this year while Menendez is also 2-0 in doubles play.
First serve is set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday from Sunset Hills.
