Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia tennis team won their first Gulf South Conference matchup of the season as they defeated the Delta State Statesmen 6-1 at Sunset Hills Country Club on Friday afternoon.
"The win felt great", said Head Coach Rhonda Bush. "The girls played awesome, and they really brought their best games today."
West Georgia (4-6, 1-4) was able to win the doubles point as Andrea Medel and Rebeca Lopez won their match 6-3 while Lea Von Kozierwoski and Futaba Saito won their set 6-2.
The other points came from von Kozierowski who was placed in the number one singles spot and won the first set 6-2, and she swept her second set winning 6-0.
Medel was next in line to win the singles as she swept the first set 6-0, and won her second set, 6-3. Rebeca Lopez and Perrine Blachon were the final two Wolves to win their sets to clinch the win against Delta State. The final point came from a forfeit in sixth singles.
West Georgia will be back in action on Monday April 1 at Christian Brothers on a neutral court with match time set for 1:30 p.m from the Homewood Tennis Club.
