Wolves Drop Saturday Double Header to Warhawks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of West Georgia Baseball team dropped their double header to the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks on Saturday.

UWG (19-20, 11-12 GSC) struggled at the plate as they failed to score in both games and only accumulated seven hits, propelling AUM (26-16, 16-7 GSC) to their series win.

GAME TWO: AUM 12, UWG 0
Jack Rasmussen got the start for West Georgia and ran into trouble early as the right hander surrendered five runs in the second, putting the Wolves in a five-run hole.

Ronny Piepmeier got the call from the bullpen to finish out the second and recorded two outs in the third before AUM's Brendan York ripped a two-run single to put the Warhawks up 7-0. Brady Simpson was called on to record the final out of the inning to send the game to the fourth.

UWG failed to get on the board in the fourth inning while Auburn Montgomery added to their lead, scoring four more runs, putting West Georgia in an 11-0 hole. Jake Jordan came in to finish out the inning and threw a wild pitch to score another Warhawks' run before getting a strikeout to finally retire the side.

Jordan was the lone bright spot in Game Two for the Wolves as he held AUM scoreless in the final two innings, but Auburn Montgomery went on to win, 12-0, after seven innings.

GAME THREE: AUM 4, UWG 0
Will Dean got the start for West Georgia in Game Three.

Dean and AUM's starter Peyton Williams put together masterful performances through the first five innings as both starters held the opposing offenses scoreless.

After just allowing four hits through five innings, Dean surrendered the first runs of the game as the Warhawks' Zach Dew hit a no-doubt two-run homer to break the ice and give Auburn Montgomery a 2-0 lead.

After one of the better outing of his 2024 season, head coach Jeff Smith relived Dean in the sixth and called on Brendan Parks to get the Wolves out of the inning.

Parks struggled to find the strike zone out of the gate and later allowed two more runs to score in the inning after a two-run single from RH Franklin, extending AUM's lead to 4-0.

UWG found themselves down to their final three outs in the seventh and went down 1-2-3 as they fell in Game Three, 4-0.

West Georgia will return to Cole Field on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference rematch against the Georgia College and State.
