ASUN Action Continues in Florida For West Georgia Volleyball

CARROLLTON, Ga. - UWG volleyball gets back on the road this weekend, with the Wolves set to face Florida Gulf Coast on Friday (Oct. 3) at 6 p.m. before taking on Stetson on Sunday (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m. Both matches are streaming on ESPN+, with links to video and live stats tagged above. 

After opening conference play with a pair of home losses, West Georgia (2-13, 0-2 ASUN) looks to break into the ASUN win column this weekend, facing FGCU (7-5, 2-0 ASUN) and Stetson (5-9, 1-1 ASUN), who are coming off a head-to-head match in which FGCU won 3-2 after taking sets two, four and five.

Coming off a career-high 38-assist performance this past weekend for UWG is freshman setter Addy Franz. Averaging 6.06 assists per set (309 total), the Loveland, Ohio native currently ranks ninth overall and second among freshmen in the ASUN in this category. Another freshman putting together a solid rookie campaign is outside hitter Valiree Schmus. Through 51 sets played in 15 matches, Schmus has recorded a UWG-high 163 points (3.20/set), fueled by 138 kills (2.71/set). As a team, the Wolves post a .131 hitting percentage and a .892 reception percentage. 

Taking a look at FGCU, the Eagles are led in scoring by outside hitter Barbara Koehler with 182 points (3.64/set) and 158 kills (3.16/set), good for fifth in the ASUN in set averages. Joining Koehler on the ASUN leaderboard is Erica Muhizi with 44 blocks (1.02 block/set), placing her sixth, and setter Hanna Borer in 10th with 279 assists (5.58/set). As a team, FGCU has recorded a .227 hitting percentage and a .927 reception percentage. One of the Eagles' best wins this season is a 3-2 victory over James Madison in their first weekend of play (Aug. 30).

For the Hatters, outside hitter Zuzanna Bury leads Stetson and ranks second in the ASUN averages with 178 points (4.24/set) and 155 kills (3.69/set). Also on the leaderboard is setter Nyah Molina in third with 462 assists (8.25/set) and seventh in digs with 210 (3.75/set), middle blocker Kayla Balfour in fourth in block averages with 58 total (1.05/set) and libero Vitoria Stedile in ninth in digs with 199 (3.62/set). As a team, the Hatters' 133 total blocks rank Stetson second in the ASUN. SU records a .181 hitting percentage and a .907 reception percentage. One of the Hatters' best wins was a 3-2 season-opening victory over Northern Illinois (Aug. 29), who now posts a 9-2 record.
