West Georgia Volleyball Hosts North Florida and Jacksonville This Weekend

9/22/2025 11:32:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - UWG volleyball kicks off conference play this Friday (Sept. 26) at 6 p.m., hosting North Florida in the home opener. The home ASUN action continues on Sunday (Sept. 28) with Jacksonville coming to the City of Dreams for a 1 p.m. match. Both weekend matches are streaming on ESPN+, with links to video and live stats tagged above.

Securing its second win of the season this past weekend, West Georgia (2-11) looks to build off the momentum hosting the Ospreys (6-7) and Dolphins (9-3), who are both coming off two-win weekends. Remarkably, Jacksonville's only losses this year have come against Alabama, no. 9 Pitt and West Virginia.

At the Mercer Invitational, multiple Wolves strung together highlight performances. Freshman defensive specialist Olivia Kremer was selected to the All-Tournament Team after recording a team-high 36 digs, 18 of which were in the Wolves' 3-0 sweep over UT Martin, marking a new career-high. Currently, she leads UWG and places tenth in the ASUN with a 3.43 digs per set average. Another Wolf who put together a solid showing was Grace-Blythe Cornett. In Macon, she recorded a season-high 15 points against Mercer, tied her season-high 12 kills against UTM and recorded a season-high 10 digs vs North Dakota. As a team, the Wolves have tallied a .129 attack percentage and a .890 reception percentage this year.

Looking at North Florida, the Ospreys' opposite hitter Kendall Newbold leads the team with 136 kills from her UNF-high 118 kills. Just behind her with 126.5 points and 118 kills is middle blocker Yarimar Francis Garay. In addition to these solid figures, Garay ranks fifth in the ASUN in total blocks with 51 and sixth in hitting percentage at .356. As a team, UNF has recorded a .186 attack percentage and a .902 reception percentage. The Ospreys lead the all-time series 2-0 over UWG.

Moving to Sunday's competition, the JU Dolphins have been led on offense by Rutgers transfer Rebekah Williams with 147 points, fueled by a team-high 118 kills and 0.51 service aces per set average (second-best in the ASUN). In addition to Williams placing on the ASUN leaderboard for service aces per set, Jade Cuya Cobos is in fourth, Alija Heins ranks sixth and Kristina Nika is in 10th. Nika also leads the Dolphins and places sixth in digs per set with a 3.76 average. As a team, JU has recorded a .256 attack percentage and a .901 reception percentage. The Dolphins hold a 2-0 lead against UWG in the all-time series. Interestingly, in the first head-to-head match (Oct. 11, 2024), the Wolves took the opening two sets before JU stormed back to win 3-2.
