High Stakes in Charlotte: Wolves and Royals Battle for ASUN Positioning

10/2/2025 10:38:00 AM

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- UWG women's soccer is back in action this Sunday as the Wolves head to Charlotte to take on Queens in another ASUN Conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.

The Wolves (3-10-0, 1-3-0 ASUN) enter the weekend looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Florida Gulf Coast at University Soccer Field. Despite the 4-0 defeat, UWG showed flashes of offensive potential with shots from Isa Ramirez, Kaylen Brown, Aleyshka Orellano, and Noemi Casique.

In goal, freshman Emily Sanabria has been one of the brightest standouts in the conference and nationally. Heading into Sunday's match, Sanabria ranks second in the nation in total saves and leads the ASUN with 78 stops on the year. She has been a reliable anchor for the Wolves' defense, averaging six saves per match.

Queens (2-7-3, 1-3-0 ASUN) also comes into the contest seeking redemption after falling 1-0 to Stetson on Sunday. The Royals gave up a goal in the 16th minute but dictated much of the match from that point on, generating 13 shots and forcing six saves from the Hatters' goalkeeper. Helena Merkle leads Queens with two goals this season, while goalkeeper Hannah Dike-Lawlor has made 50 saves and holds a .714 save percentage through 11 starts.

Last season, the Wolves and Royals played to a draw, and with both programs entering this weekend with identical 1-3 ASUN records, another close contest is expected. Sunday will also serve as Senior Day for Queens, adding another layer of intensity to the matchup. UWG will look to spoil the Royals' Senior Day by earning their first road victory of the season, while Queens will look to defend their home field.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Charlotte, and fans can follow the action with live stats and streaming links available on the top of the page.
