Freshman Firepower Set to Carry Momentum into Sunday Match

9/26/2025 12:59:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga.- Coming off a victory against Stetson at University Soccer Field, UWG women's soccer is set to continue ASUN play this Sunday afternoon as they welcome Florida Gulf Coast University to Carrollton for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

The Wolves (3-9-0, 1-2-0 ASUN) enter the matchup with momentum after defeating Stetson 3-1 on Thursday night. The victory was the program's first against the Hatters and pushed UWG past last season's win total while also marking the most goals scored in their Division I era.

UWG had three different players score in their last match, with freshman Bella Yelton scoring her first career goal and senior Aleyshka Orellano adding her first of the season. Additionally, freshman Kaylen Brown continued her scoring streak, scoring three of the five last goals for the Wolves.

In goal, freshman Emily Sanabria was outstanding, recording nine saves on 19 Stetson shots to secure the victory. Sanabria continues her impressive debut campaign, currently leading the ASUN in total saves during her first season of collegiate play.

FGCU (4-4-1, 1-1-0 ASUN) comes to Carrollton after falling 1-0 to Queens on Thursday night in Charlotte. Despite the setback, the Eagles fired 19 shots with nine on goal but were unable to even the score. The matchup marks the second meeting between the Wolves and Eagles, with FGCU winning last year's contest 5-0 in Fort Myers.

With the Wolves' offense finding rhythm, their freshmen making an immediate impact, and the defense anchored by Sanabria, UWG will look to earn consecutive victories.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at University Soccer Field, fans are encouraged to pack the stands and support the Wolves.
