UWG Volleyball Closes Out Season This Saturday at Home

11/13/2025 10:26:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Coming off a weekday loss to Queens (Nov. 12), West Georgia women's volleyball welcomes Austin Peay to The Coliseum on Saturday (Nov. 15) for the final match of the season. First serve is at 7 p.m. with Senior Day Celebrations set to take place before.

UWG (2-26, 0-15 ASUN) looks to send off its three seniors in style, with the Wolves closing out the season hosting an APSU (4-23, 2-13 ASUN) team that is riding a seven-game losing streak.

The Wolves lead the all-time series 2-0, having beaten the Governors in the first meeting during the 1982 season (Oct. 29,,1982) and again last year (Oct. 15, 2024).

This year's senior class features three outstanding Wolves: Mackenzie Yoakum, Marley Staats and Sanai Young.

Following a redshirt season in 2024, Yoakum's final year with the Pack featured the right side hitter playing in 13 matches and starting in one, totaling 24 sets. Over the course of the year, Yoakum has tallied 19.5 points, 14 kills, 10 blocks, five digs and one assist. Her block average of 0.42 per set currently places her third on the team. One of the senior's best performances this year was when she recorded a season-high five points and four kills with two blocks, one dig and one assist against ECU (Sept. 6).

Playing all four seasons at UWG, Staats has competed in 306 sets through 91 matches in the red and blue. Over four years, the outside hitter has accumulated 459 points, 376 kills, 188 digs, 152 blocks, 12 assists and a pair of service aces. This year she has played in 19 matches, tallying a season-high 54 digs with 10 points, seven blocks, six assists and four kills. One of Staats best performances this year was when she recorded a season-high six blocks with three points in the Wolves' win over UNC Greensboro (Sept. 13).

Like Staats, Young has also played all four seasons at UWG. Remarkably, the middle blocker finished her career competing in every possible match in the last four years (114) and has started in all but one (113). In this time, she has tallied 939 points, 722 kills, 369 blocks, 92 digs, 18 assists and five service aces. Young's 369 blocks currently ranks her fifth all-time at UWG, the most by a Wolf since Amber Barnlund recorded 386 (third all-time) while playing from 2005-08. In her 28 matches started this season, the Georgia native leads the Wolves with 75 blocks while tallying 184 points, 137 kills, 19 digs and four assists. One of her best  performances this year was when she recorded a season-high 14 points and eight blocks while accumulating 10 kills in West Georgia's win against UNCG.

Looking at APSU, the Governors are led by opposite hitter Tally Cloyd with 336 points and 307 kills, ranking her sixth in kills and seventh in points in the ASUN. In her 27 matches played, Cloyd has scored double-digits 19 total times, and has achieved this feat 12 of the last 13 matches. Joining Cloyd on the ASUN leaderboard is libero Reagan Anderson, who leads the conference with 422 digs. In 27 matches, Anderson has had 22 double-digit dig performances. Another Governor putting up top-ten ASUN numbers is middle blocker Dayan Malavé, who places eighth in the league with 91 blocks. Going back to just last Saturday (Nov. 8), Malavé recorded a season-high 15 points and 12 kills while tallying five blocks, four digs and one service ace against North Alabama.

Looking at team stats, the Wolves have posted a .134 hitting percentage and a .893 reception rate. For the Governors, APSU attacks at a .157 percentage while recording a .910 reception percentage.

First serve on Saturday is set for 7 p.m. Senior Day Celebrations will take place prior to the match. Tickets can be purchased here, but if you can't make it, the match is streaming on ESPN+ with a link tagged at the top of the page.
