CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG women's basketball team, winners of their last two, are back to the road this week, taking on Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech at McCamish Pavilion on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
West Georgia (2-1) enjoyed the friendly confines of The Coliseum for wins over Gardner-Webb and Alabama State, while Georgia Tech (2-2) is looking to rebound from a loss to fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.
"We're excited about another opportunity to compete against a Power Four opponent," said head coach Joanna Reitz. "They are a totally different team than last year with a new coaching staff and new players and it's a great opportunity for us to see how we measure up."
Three games in and the Wolves had seen the scoring distributed primarily through four players. Jasmine Jones leads the quartet of Wolves averaging double-figures with 21.3 per contest and is 16-of-26 (61.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Carrollton native is the ASUN's top scorer and still leads the country in three-pointers made per game (5.33) and ranks 10th in three-point percentage.
Asia Donald is second on the team and in the ASUN in scoring at 18.3 points per game.
Last time out it was Destiny Jones leading the way with 18 points and 13 rebounds, recording her 10th career double-double in the win over Alabama State.
Junior guard Sydne Tolbert also averages double-figures, scoring 12.3 points per game, and is tied for the team lead in assists with 12, although Grace O'Gara's assists per game number (6.0) is a team high and leads the ASUN.
Looking back to the Yellow Jackets, they have wins over Radford and Charleston Southern with the losses coming to Princeton and Jacksonville.
Two Jackets are averaging over 10 points per game, led by 14.8 per game from Talayah Walker. Catherine Alben averages 12.5 points to rank second for Tech. On the glass, Brianna Turnage leads the way with 10.8 rebounds per game.
West Georgia and GT last met a season ago in what was game three of UWG's inaugural Division I schedule. Georgia Tech won 88-53 in what was the third meeting all-time.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from McCamish Pavilion. The game will be aired on ACC Network X, which is a part of the ESPN+ network.
