Wolves Basketball Welcomes Georgia Southern to Carrollton

12/12/2025 11:30:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Coming off its first home loss of the season, UWG men's basketball continues its three-game homestead hosting Georgia Southern this Saturday (Dec. 13) at 7 p.m. in The Coliseum. The game is streaming on ESPN+, and tickets can be purchased using the link above.

After tying its season-low in scoring (59 points) in the latest game, the Wolves (5-4) will need an offensive spark to overcome a red-hot Georgia Southern team (7-5) that extended its winning streak to four following a 48-point win over Coastal Georgia on Thursday night (Dec. 12).

With the series dating back to the 1991-92 season, GSU currently leads the all-time head-to-head 2-0. The Eagles won last year's matchup in Statesboro 64-54 (Nov. 23, 2024).

Saturday's clash marks West Georgia's second and final Sun Belt opponent this season. UWG is 1-0 against the conference, having beaten Troy earlier this year (Dec. 1).

"Hopefully, we will be a lot more urgent than we were on Saturday (Dec. 6), we are going to need to be," said head coach Dave Moore. "Georgia Southern is a veteran group. Long, athletic and physical with a lot of graduate students and redshirt seniors on their roster, so they are going to be ready to go."

In the Wolves' recent matchup against TTU, guard Josh Smith recorded his seventh double-digit scoring performance of the season, finishing with a team-high 17 points. Nine games in, and the Chicago native has been an offensive weapon for the Pack. Currently, Smith places second on the team and eighth in the ASUN with a 15.4 points per game average while shooting 43 percent from the field and 40 percent from three. The guard also ranks third on the team with 21 total assists, averaging to 2.3 per game.

After allowing TTU to score 48 of its 87 points in the paint, UWG will need to step up its interior defense when they take on a GSU team that has averaged 40 points in the paint over the last two games.

The Pack's down low defense will start with the Wolves' big men, forwards Kenneth Chime and JaVar Daniel. Currently, the pair ranks first and second in the ASUN in blocks, with Chime's 1.9 blocks per game taking the edge over Daniel's 1.8 average. In addition to leading the ASUN in blocks, Chime's 5.7 rebounds per game place him tenth in the league on the glass. Starting in all nine games, Chime averages 3.8 points per contest, and has totaled six assists. Seeing action off the bench in eight games, Daniel averages 7.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, and has recorded six assists. Notably, Daniel missed the latest contest, and it is unclear if he will play on Saturday.

For GSU, the Eagles are led in scoring and assists by graduate student guard Spudd Webb, who is averaging 15.7 points (eighth in the Sun Belt), 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 54 percent from the field (third in the Sun Belt). He has also totaled 22 steals (third in the Sun Belt) and nine blocks. In just his second week with the Eagles, the guard took home Sun Belt Player of the Week honors after he scored 37 points on 75 percent shooting, grabbed seven rebounds, 12 assists, six steals and two blocks over two games. Prior to transferring to Georgia Southern, Webb spent four seasons playing at Emmanuel. During his time with Lions, the guard collected many awards, including Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year (2022-23), Second Team All-Conference Carolinas (2022-23), First Team All-Conference Carolinas (2024-25) and Conference Carolinas All-Defensive Team (2024-25). He even capped off his career with the Lions dropping a personal best 44 points in the Conference Carolinas Championship game (March 9, 2025). Be on the lookout for no. 21 this Saturday.

Another Eagle to watch out for this weekend is graduate student Tyren Moore. Starting in all 12 games so far this season, the guard averages 11.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and two assists per game, shooting 46 percent from the field and 42 percent from three. Not only does Moore rank second in the Sun Belt in three point percentage, the Preseason All-Sun Belt Selection also leads the league in threes made (34). A month and half into play, Moore has knocked down four or more three-pointers in four games. If no. 12 has the ball on the perimeter, watch for the guard to take the shot.

Looking at team stats, UWG averages 76.2 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field, 37 percent from three and 66 percent from the line. The Wolves have allowed its opponents to score an average of 80.6 points per game. GSU averages 81.9 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field, 34 percent from three and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The Eagles concede an average of 78.2 points per game.

Tipoff from The Coliseum on Saturday is set for 7 p.m. Links to live stats, the ESPN+ broadcast and where tickets can be purchased are tagged at the top of the page.
