FORT MYERS, Fla. – The UWG softball team fell in Saturday's ASUN Conference series finale to Florida Gulf Coast by a 4-3 count on the road. 

West Georgia (9-23, 1-8 ASUN) lost the final two games of the series by a combined three runs following the lopsided loss in the series opener. Florida Gulf Coast (20-20, 7-2 ASUN) swept their second ASUN series in three total series to begin the 2025 conference slate. 

FGCU struck first, using a single, two stolen bases and a throwing error on the latter of those swipe attempts to score the game's opening run. The Eagles then added one more in the first and another in the second to open up a 3-0 lead. 

Zekylah Boyd led off the third with a single, later scoring after an error, a single, and a fielder's choice RBI from Blaire Bizette to get the Wolves on the board. 

A single, a stolen base, and productive outs led to a fourth FGCU run in the fourth inning. 

West Georgia made it a one-run game with back-to-back singles by Dixiana Sims and Bizette, followed by a Shelby Garrett walk and a two-RBI single by Makayla Register, cutting the UWG deficit to 4-3 with two innings left. 

The Wolves managed just one hit over the final two frames, but FGCU's reliever Victoria Ash, who earned a two-inning save, faced the minimum. 

Calli Hardison pitched a complete game in the loss, giving up the four runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking none. 

Offensively, Sims and Bizette had two hits a piece in the top third of the Wolves' lineup. Bizette had the one RBI while Register drove in the other two. 

UWG returns home now for a nine-game homestand that begins on April 2 with a non-conference doubleheader against Troy.
