UWG Continues ASUN Action in Jacksonville

4/3/2025 9:00:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia baseball continues conference play this weekend, taking on the Ospreys of North Florida in a three-game ASUN series. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m.

Coming off of a 3-0 series defeat to the top-ranked Stetson Hatters, UWG (13-13, 4-5 ASUN) heads to Jacksonville looking to snap a four-game losing streak against UNF (17-12, 6-3 ASUN), who most recently fell to Florida following 2-1 series win over FGCU.

Going into this away series, senior righty Lane Pearson continues to rank in the ASUN top-two in multiple pitching categories. Currently, Pearson leads the league with 52 strikeouts while placing second with a 1.65 ERA and a 1.84 batters faced average. Through 43.2 frames, the 4-0 pitcher averages 1.2 strikeouts per inning. In a conference full of stellar pitching, the righty out of Marshall, Virginia continues to standout from the rest.

Partnering with Pearson as his main closer, senior righty Brendan Parks has also been deadly on the mound for the Wolves. Through 18 innings across nine appearances, Parks posts a 3.50 ERA with 29 strikeouts, tying him in 12th in the ASUN in total punchouts. The Atlanta native currently averages 1.6 strikeouts per inning pitched. Parks is tied for first in the ASUN with three saves, but is not listed on the site's leaderboard due to not meeting the requirement of one inning pitched per contest.

These two Wolves are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to West Georgia's deep and talented pitching pool. Following Pearson in the weekend rotation, right-handed junior Sam Cole posts a ninth-best in-conference 3.86 ERA with 26 strikeouts and senior righty Seth Dudley boasts a 4.08 ERA with 38 punchouts, the seventh-most in the league.

West Georgia's 5.63 team ERA ranks the Wolves seventh in the ASUN. At the plate, UWG posts a .276 team batting average, good for fourth in the ASUN.

Leading the charge with a sixth-best in-conference .351 average is senior center fielder Cooper Prince. In 94 at-bats, Prince has tallied 33 hits (11th in the ASUN), 29 runs (fifth in the ASUN), 10 RBIs, five doubles, four triples (tied for first in the ASUN) and posts a 0.466 on-base percentage (tenth in the ASUN).

Alongside Prince on the league leaderboards, junior first baseman Carter Dierdorf posts a .330 batting average while ranking tied for second with 29 RBIs and 10 doubles, along with ranking third with 72 total bases, nine homers, a 1.149 OPS and a .720 slugging percentage.

Looking at UNF, the Ospreys place second in the ASUN with a 4.46 ERA.

Fulfilling the game one starting role for the Ospreys is junior righty Will Ross. Through 40 innings across seven appearances, Ross posts a third-best in-ASUN 1.80 ERA with 33 punchouts.

Taking on UNF's game two pitching role is freshman righty Bryson Treichel. In 33.1 innings through seven games, Treichel holds opposing batters to a .208 average while posting a 2.70 ERA with 36 strikeouts. This ranks the Osprey sixth in the ASUN in batters faced average and ERA in addition to ranking eighth in strikeouts. Treichel is coming off of a complete game shutout win over FGCU, in which he struck out seven Eagles in the Ospreys' 10-0 (7 inn.) run rule victory.

Looking at the UNF offense, the Ospreys tally a .277 team batting average, .001 higher than the Wolves.

Leading the charge at the plate with a .327 average are senior second baseman Connor Moore and redshirt sophomore Nick Monile, who plays in center. In Moore's 107 at-bats, he has accumulated 35 hits, 21 runs, 14 RBIs, 10 doubles (tied for first in the ASUN), three triples (tied for fourth in the ASUN) and one homer. In Monile's 98 at-bats, the Tampa native has tallied 32 hits, 25 runs, nine RBIs, four triples (tied for first in the ASUN) and three doubles.

Regarding how these two teams play in the field, West Georgia's 24 errors is the lowest in the league and their 0.972 fielding percentage ranks third. UNF has committed 42 errors and they field at a 0.959 percentage which is the second-most in the ASUN for both categories.
