9/3/2025 8:00:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Head coach Jeff Smith announced today that Dominic Murgo III and Micah Cannon will be joining the UWG baseball staff as assistant coaches, with Murgo handling the pitching duties and Cannon coaching the outfielders.

"We are excited to welcome Dom Murgo and Micah Cannon to our coaching staff," stated Smith. "Dom, is an alumni of UWG and I know he's extremely excited to be back on campus. He will be working exclusively with our pitching staff as our pitching coach this year. The experience he gained this past year at Driveline in Tampa will be extremely helpful in the development of our pitching staff," Smith continued. "Micah will be working with our outfielders while assisting Bryan with hitting and base running. Micah brings experience he's gained from his time at Emporia State and this summer while coaching in Kansas. I am excited to have them on our staff this year."

Making his return to the City of Dreams, Murgo pitched for the Wolves in 2022 and 2023 before closing out his career playing for Barry University in 2024. Over the course of two seasons with West Georgia, the pitcher competed in 24 games, accumulating 28.1 frames with 24 strikeouts. In 2024, Murgo proved to be one of the top pitchers for the Barry Parrots, posting a team-best 3.18 ERA and a 6-1 record, while tallying a fourth-best 38 strikeouts. Hanging up his cleats for a whistle and clipboard, Murgo served as Barry's graduate assistant coach and the Director of Analytics during the 2025 season.

Joining the UWG staff as the outfielders coach, Cannon played baseball at Bryan College during the 2018 and 2019 seasons before transitioning into the coaching world. While at BC, the team secured 75 total wins and advanced to regionals in 2019. Over the past two seasons, Cannon has served as a graduate assistant at Emporia State University, specifically working with catchers and outfielders along with assisting the hitters. In addition to coaching at ESU, Cannon spent this summer as the head coach of the Junction City Brigade, a team competing in the Jayhawk Collegiate League. Under Cannon's direction, the JC Brigade posted a 27-12 overall record and punched their ticket to the NBC World Series.
