Home Turf Showdown: Buccaneers Visit the Den

9/2/2025 2:09:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The UWG soccer team returns to University Soccer Field on Thursday, September 4, to kickoff a four-game home stand following a four-game road stretch, hosting East Tennessee State at 6 p.m. in Carrollton.

UWG (0-5-0) enters the match looking to bounce back after a 3-0 defeat at Middle Tennessee on Sunday. Through five contests, the Wolves have shown flashes defensively, anchored by freshman goalkeeper Emily Sanabria, who has already tallied 30 saves and earned a .789 save percentage. On the attacking end, Noemi Casique has been UWG's most efficient scorer, netting both of the team's goals this season on a .500 shooting percentage with three shots on goal. Campbell Taylor has also been active offensively, leading the team with seven shot attempts. To get their first win, the Wolves will aim to generate more scoring chances, as they currently average just five shots per game compared to their opponents' 24.

ETSU (2-2-2) travels to Carrollton after a 1-0 victory over Longwood that snapped a four-game winless streak. The Buccaneers' attack is led by Reagan Fitzgerald, who leads the team with three goals on 21 shot attempts, including two game-winners. Fitzgerald is backed by Alex Beck and Ava Duffey, who have combined for two goals and 14 shots. Collectively, ETSU has outshot opponents 84-37 this season, averaging 14 attempts per match. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Addison Yelton has been solid for the Buccaneers with ten saves and two shutouts.

For UWG, the keys to victory will be finding ways to sustain possession, creating more shot opportunities, and capitalizing on corner kicks. Limiting Fitzgerald's influence and disrupting ETSU's rhythm in the midfield will also be crucial to slowing down a Buccaneers team that thrives on volume shooting.

Thursday's contest marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs. A win would not only give the Wolves their first victory of 2025, but also provide valuable momentum during a four-game stretch at home.
