CARROLLTON, Ga. – After falling on the road, UWG's women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column and keep their perfect home record on Saturday when the Wolves host Queens at The Coliseum.
The game will tip off at 12:00 p.m., a change in the originally scheduled time, due to the forecast of winter weather, allowing Queens an earlier departure.
West Georgia (12-6, 5-2 ASUN) fell at Central Arkansas on Wednesday, but return home where they are 10-0 this season and have won 11 consecutive straight dating back to last season's regular season finale win over the Royals. Queens (7-11, 1-6 ASUN) has dropped six consecutive after they won their Atlantic Sun opener over Bellarmine and the Royals most recently dropped a 63-60 contest on the road at North Alabama.
Last time out, UWG shot the ball well, but gave up 15 offensive rebounds on the road and UCA had 18 more shot attempts that did the Wolves.
Jasmine Jones and Sydney Tolbert each had 17 to lead UWG in the loss and Jones kept up her sharp shooting. The senior poured in five three-pointers, raising her season total to 66. Jones continues to lead the country in three-pointers per game, averaging 3.67 per contest.
As for Tolbert, she is averaging 13.8 per game, but has turned it up in ASUN play, scoring 15.4 per game in league play, which is fourth best in the conference.
UWG enters as the second-best scoring offense in the ASUN averaging 73.6 points per game while Queens ranks 11th at 59.6 per night.
Queens is led offensively by Brenae Jones-Grant who averages 11.2 points per game. The Cleveland State transfer also leads the Royals on the glass and ranks fifth in the league at 7.4 rebounds per game. Former Wolf Hannah Hicks is also one of Queens' top rebounders, as she ranks seventh in the ASUN at 7.3 rebounds per game.
That duo down low will present a challenge for UWG's top rebounders, Destiny Jones and Asia Donald. Jones is third in the ASUN at 8.2 rebounds per game while Donald pulls down 5.2 per game.
UWG, however, does have a slight advantage in the team rebounding department, averaging right at two more boards per contest than Queens.
The last time these teams met in The Coliseum, it was an instant classic. Destiny Jones, Sydne Tolbert, and Grace O'Gara scored in double-figures and it was Grace O'Gara who hit a game-tying bucket at the buzzer while drawing a foul and converting at the line to propel the Wolves to a Senior Day win to close out their inaugural regular season ASUN campaign.
As a reminder, the game has been moved up to a 12 p.m. tip-off due to the weather forecast. Stay tuned here on uwgathletics.com and @UWG_WBB on social media for any further updates that could occur.
