ASUN Road Trip Continues in Jacksonville

1/9/2026 1:58:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The UWG men's basketball team continues ASUN Conference play with momentum as they are in the middle of a four-game road swing, coming off an 85-73 road victory over North Florida in their first away contest of league play. The Wolves will remain in the Sunshine State to face Jacksonville University on Saturday, Jan. 10, with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Through the first three games of conference play, UWG (9-6, 3-0 ASUN) has emerged as one of only three teams in the conference to remain undefeated. Jacksonville (5-11, 0-3 ASUN) enters the matchup still searching for its first conference win after suffering a 77-51 loss to Queens in its most recent outing.

The Wolves' recent win at North Florida showcased their offensive firepower, led once again by Shelton Williams-Dryden. The back-to-back ASUN Player of the Week and reigning Lute Olson National Player of the Week recorded his third consecutive double-double, finishing with 27 points and 10 rebounds while shooting an efficient 58 percent from the field. Williams-Dryden has been dominant throughout conference play, currently ranking second in the ASUN in scoring at 19.8 points per game while leading the league in rebounding at 9.6 boards per contest. Through three ASUN games, he is averaging a double-double and setting the standard for UWG on both ends of the floor.

Josh Smith has continued to be a spark for the Wolves off the bench and remains one of the most productive players in the conference. Smith leads the ASUN in scoring off the bench and currently ranks sixth overall in conference scoring. Against North Florida, the Chicago native poured in 22 points while adding three rebounds, four assists, and two steals, marking his second 20-point performance in league play. Together, Smith and Williams-Dryden form one of the most dangerous scoring duos in the ASUN, combining to average 36.1 points per game, the second-highest mark in the conference. The pair also leads the league in total points this season, accounting for 541 combined points.

Malcolm Noel continues to provide steady leadership at the point guard position, making his fifth consecutive start and delivering a career performance against the Ospreys. Noel scored a career-high 22 points, knocking down a personal-best five three-pointers. He opened the game on fire, hitting his first four shots from beyond the arc, and later delivered a clutch three late in the second half with UWG holding a four-point lead, igniting a 12-4 run that secured the victory. Noel was perfect from the free-throw line at 5-for-5 and is now shooting 92.8 percent from the stripe in conference play. He also contributed four rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the win.

Defensively, UWG continues to be anchored by the dominant interior presence of Kenneth Chime and JaVar Daniel. Chime, a redshirt freshman, recorded six points, five rebounds, and two blocks against North Florida, giving him 26 blocks on the season and an average of 1.7 blocks per game, which ranks third in the ASUN. Daniel added four points, two blocks, and a steal in the contest and currently leads the league in blocks per game at 1.9, also totaling 26 blocks on the year. Together, the frontcourt duo has combined for 52 blocks this season, making them the top shot-blocking tandem in the ASUN and a major reason the Wolves lead the conference in blocked shots per game.

Jacksonville enters Saturday riding a six-game losing streak and will look to earn its first league victory in front of a home crowd. In its most recent loss to Queens, the Dolphins recorded their lowest scoring output of the season with 51 points, as Jaylen Jones was the lone player to reach double figures. Jones logged his first minutes since Dec. 11 and continues to be Jacksonville's most consistent scoring option, averaging 10.7 points per game. He has shown his offensive potential with a season-high 17-point performance against Florida A&M earlier this season.

Jason Thirdkill Jr. has been a key contributor for the Dolphins, particularly on the defensive end. He posted seven points, eight rebounds, a season-high four blocks, and two steals in the loss to Queens and currently ranks fifth in the ASUN in blocks per game. Thirdkill Jr. also poses an offensive threat, highlighted by his season-high 19-point outing against Texas A&M.

True freshman Evan Sterck has made an immediate impact in his first collegiate season, recording five points and six rebounds in Jacksonville's most recent game. Sterck ranks seventh in the ASUN in assists at 3.5 per game and showcased his playmaking ability earlier this season with a career-high 10-assist performance against Trinity Christian.

As a team, Jacksonville ranks fifth in the ASUN in field-goal percentage at 44.7 percent, fourth in offensive rebounding at 11.8 boards per game, and fifth in blocked shots at 3.13 per contest. On the other hand, UWG continues to stand out across multiple statistical categories, ranking fourth in the conference in three-point shooting at 35.7 percent, second in total rebounding at 38.1 rebounds per game, third in offensive rebounds at 12.7 per contest, and first in the ASUN in blocked shots, averaging 5.2 per game.

The Wolves will look to stay unbeaten in ASUN play as they continue their road trip and face a Jacksonville team eager to turn the page at home. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Jacksonville.
