CONWAY, Ar.- West Georgia travels only 30 minutes north to face the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas for the second time this season. The two clubs faced only eight days ago when UWG hosted UCA in Carrolton, with the Sugar Bears taking the match in four sets. The Wolves are still searching for their first UAC win of the season after dropping Thursday's match at Little Rock.
The previous match between the two programs, Wolf redshirt-freshman Brooke McCall recorded 22 kills, a new career high. She was responsible for 22.0 total points last match, the second most in UWG history since elevating to the Division I level. McCall tied that record earlier this season when she was tagged for 23.0 points against Alabama A&M (Sept. 4), tying Mary Morgan Formby's 23.0 total for the most points by a Wolf since West Georgia's move to Division I (Aug. 30, 2024). McCall is second in the UAC in total kills (214) and third in total points (232.5). During yesterday's match at Little Rock, Grace-Blythe Cornett tallied ten kills and Giorgia Mandotti was tagged for three service aces, holding her lead in the UAC for most avg/aces a set (.50).
Defensively for the Wolves, Valiree Schmus stuffed four blocks setting a new career high. Milena Ćetkovićc hold the lead for most blocks this season having 42.0 on the year and averaging .67 a set.
Central Arkansas is entering the match after reverse-sweeping Tarleton State highlighted by Greyson Button who racked up 12 kills and hit an impressive .600 and blocked the Texans six times. The Sugar Bears are also led by 2x UAC Freshman of the Week Kennady Martindale, a 6-1 freshman from Pittsburg, Pa.
The next West Georgia home game will be Thursday, October 15th hosting Eastern Kentucky, fans are encouraged to wear pink for the annual DIG PINK game supporting breast cancer awareness.
