CARROLLTON, Ga. - The final stretch of the regular season is here, and UWG women;s basketball has just two home games remaining. The first of those two is set for Wednesday, February 11 at 7 p.m. against North Alabama.
West Georgia (15-8, 8-4 ASUN) is coming off of a 1-1 road trip that featured a loss at Jacksonville and a win at North Florida, while North Alabama (12-11, 7-5 ASUN) most recently fell at Central Arkansas. Since starting their league play 0-3, UNA is 7-2 in their last nine games, and is in the middle of five consecutive road games.
UWG returns to The Coliseum where they are 12-1 this season with the only loss coming to EKU who is unbeaten in league play. UNA is 4-8 on the road this season, with the only wins in road ASUN play coming at Queens and North Florida.
Leading the Wolves is a quartet of double-digit scorers, highlighted by Asia Donald and Jasmine Jones who average 14.7 and 14.3 points per game. Sydne Tolbert is third on the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game while Destiny Jones scores 10.4 points per game while grabbing 8.1 rebounds per game.
North Alabama's offense goes through Alexsandra Alvarado who averages 13.7 per game, but against ASUN opponents, the fifth-year senior is second in the league at 16.2 points per contest.
The Lions also have two youngsters, freshman Gabby Jackson and sophomore Sofia Ceppollotti, averaging double-figures with Brown's 6.6 rebounds per game leading the Lions.
UNA is the only team UWG still has to play twice over the final six games of the season, and it's a renewal of a long-standing rival from the Division II, GSC days. Wednesday's game will be the 75th meeting all-time. UNA holds the advantage, winning 42 of the previous 74 meetings. Last season, the teams split the meetings with each team winning at home.
With six games remaining, UWG currently sits in a three-way tie for second. The Wolves are tied with Stetson and Jacksonville. UNA is one of three teams one game behind at 7-5 in league play, tied with FGCU and Central Arkansas.
