Wolves Head West to Take on Little Rock

2/19/2026 11:26:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia baseball takes on the Little Rock Trojans at Gary Hogan Field this weekend in the three-game series. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, and all of the games are streaming live on ESPN+.

Riding a four-game losing streak, UWG (1-4) has its eye on stopping the skid this weekend when they take on a red-hot Trojan team (3-1), which is coming off a series win over Eastern Michigan and a come-from-behind victory at Memphis.

Friday's game marks the first time the Wolves have played Little Rock in baseball. Notably, UWG and ULR are both joining the United Athletic Conference next season.

Receiving his first start at UWG in game one of this weekend's series is senior righty Lex Kenny. Pitching in three innings of the last Central Michigan game, Kenny struck out three Chippewas and conceded one run from the 13 batters he faced. Prior to UWG, Kenny competed for Georgia College & State for three seasons.

Expected to make his second West Georgia start in this weekend's game two is sophomore righty Wilson Donnelly. Posting a 0-1 record, Donnelly struck out four batters and let up five earned runs in his five innings on the mound last Saturday.

The starting UWG pitcher for game three is currently undecided.

Little Rock is expected to start Brannon Westmoreland in game one, a junior righty who transferred from Conners State this year. In Westmoreland's first Little Rock start, the Oklahoma native struck out three Eastern Michigan Eagles and allowed only one run in his six innings pitched.

Game two's starter for ULR is redshirt senior lefty Brigden Parker. Making his first Little Rock start in game two of the EMU series, the Kansas transfer recorded seven strikeouts and prevented the Eagles from scoring in his five frames.

Game three will see junior righty Zach Busick get his second start of the season. In his latest appearance, Busick struck out six batters and walked three, but did not give up a hit or run in his five frames vs EMU.

Looking at the batter's box, UWG has knocked a home run out of the park in every game, totaling eight on the season. Leading the way with two homers and notably recording the first UWG home run of the season is first baseman Fano Cruz. Remarkably, Cruz has tallied two homers and one double from his five hits, leading to a second-best .632 slugging percentage for UWG. Serving as the leadoff hitter in the majority of games so far, Cruz has driven in a team-high six RBIs and crossed home plate four times.

Posting a team-best .438 batting average for UWG is second baseman Gabe Wuerth. Typically batting around the sixth spot, Wuerth has tallied seven hits that featured one homer and one double, resulting in a West Georgia-best .688 slugging percentage. He also leads the team with a .526 on-base percentage.

Moving to ULR, the Trojans have also done a superb job at the plate. With four starters tallying a .400 or better batting average, it comes as no surprise that Little Rock has recorded a stellar .340 team batting average (UWG posts .257 team batting average).

Leading the way for Little Rock with a .500 batting average, fueled by a team-high nine hits, is senior infielder Angel Cano. Of his nine hits, Cano has recorded a team-best three home runs and drove in five RBIs. In addition to leading the team in these statistics, the Colombian is tied with outfielder Kade Smith for a team-best 1.000 slugging percentage.

Speaking of Smith, the junior is also tied with Cano for a team-high .500 batting average. In his eight at-bats, Smith has accumulated four hits, one double, one home run, driven in one RBI and crossed the plate three times. Between his solid slugging percentage and his team-best .667 on-base percentage, Smith leads ULR with a 1.667 OPS.
