West Georgia Travels to Louisville for ASUN Indoor Championships

CARROLLTON, Ga.- After nearly four months of competition, the University of West Georgia men's track and field team is set to close the 2025-26 indoor season at the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 27-28 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Sprints & Hurdles
The sprint group is headlined by reigning ASUN Track Performer of the Week Gavin Barlow, who holds the UWG school record in the 60m with a blazing 6.74 and also enters the long jump at 7.35m. In the 200m, Trey Campbell leads UWG with a 22.29 entry, followed by Kyron Belton at 22.40 and Vaughn Dickenson Jr. at 22.62.

The 400m features UWG record holder Matt Strickland, who owns the program record in both the 300m (34.52) and 400m (48.25). He enters the conference meet at 48.26. Landon Chovanic follows at 51.20, with Zachary Wiggins close behind at 51.90. Over the hurdles, Landon Chovanic, the UWG record holder in the 60m hurdles (8.43), leads the group with an 8.43 entry. He is joined by Zachary Wiggins at 8.48, Ishmeal Neblett at 8.56, and Kellen Andrews at 8.86.

The 4x400m relay squad enters with a time of 3:18.30, while the distance medley relay carries a 10:23.55 mark after setting a new UWG school record at the Tryon Mid-Winter Collegiate Invitational in the Wolves latest meet.

Distance
The distance unit brings strong momentum into Louisville, led by multiple record holders. In the 800m, Abenezer Woellore enters at 1:56.54 and holds the UWG school records in both the 800m (1:55.53) and 1000m (2:34.0). Solomon Johnson will represent UWG in the mile with a 4:28.50 entry. Noah Anderson leads the Wolves in the 3000m at 8:43.29.

Jumps, Throws, & Vaults
The field events have been a major strength this season, featuring multiple UWG record holders. In the high jump, Blake Davis enters at 2.01m and holds the current UWG record in the event. Isaiah McMichael follows closely at 2.00m, with Will Shawley (1.85m) and Matthew Brunner (1.80m) adding depth.

The pole vault group is led by UWG record holder Kareem Nazim, who cleared 4.65m earlier this season. Connor McLain follows at 4.61m, with Shea Thiewes at 4.35m, Sam Hall at 4.05m, and Rhett Howard at 3.96m to round out the lineup.

In the long jump, Barlow again leads the way at 7.35m. Godsfavor Adenuga enters at 7.29m, Marcus Thompson Jr. at 7.01m, and Blake Davis at 6.55m. The triple jump is highlighted by Marcus Thompson Jr., who owns the UWG record at 14.91m. Adenuga follows at 14.70m, Davis at 14.29m, Ricky Griffin at 13.25m, and Shawley at 12.66m. In the throws, Nicholas Lane will represent UWG in both the shot put (12.26m) and weight throw (14.07m).

Heptathlon
For the first time this season, Kellen Andrews, Matthew Brunner, Conner Changizi, and Rhett Howard will compete in the heptathlon. The multi-event competition provides the Wolves an opportunity to accumulate valuable points and showcase their versatility on the conference stage. 

With nine school record holders competing and Gavin Barlow entering the meet as the reigning ASUN Track Performer of the Week, the Wolves head to Louisville with confidence and momentum. 

UWG is led by Head Coach Ryan Bailey alongside sprints, jumps, and hurdles coach Shanicka Dyson-Woodman, pole vault coach Shannon Riley, throws coach Robert Brown, and graduate assistants Phelani Maduwa and Olivia Fulford.
