Historic Weekend in Tryon for UWG Track & Field

TRYON, N.C.- The University of West Georgia track and field teams closed the Tryon Mid-Winter Collegiate Invitational with a weekend packed with historic performances. After two days of competition, the Wolves totaled 12 podium finishes, 15 top-five finishes, four gold medals, and six UWG record performances, highlighted by runs from Reatta Danhof and Chloe Leblanc

Distance
The men opened the morning mile with a statement performance, sweeping the podium in dominant fashion. Freshman Alex Njoroge led the charge with a first place finish in 4:26.20, followed by Solomon Johnson in second at 4:28.50 and Felipe Barrios in third at 4:29.00 as the Wolves controlled the race from start to finish. Later in the day, Noah Anderson added an eighth place finish in the afternoon mile with a time of 4:21.10, while Aiden Thaxton recorded a 9:01.91 effort in the 3000m.

On the women's side, Reatta Danhof delivered another historic run in the afternoon mile, placing fifth with a time of 5:06.78 and breaking her own UWG record for the second consecutive meet. Haley Hartman opened the day with a tenth place finish in the morning mile at 5:50.92. 

In the 3000m, Catherine Greer led the Wolves with a sixth place time of 11:06.32, followed by Laney Pierce at 11:29.49. The distance group capped the day in the 800m where Chloe Leblanc broke the UWG record with a time of 2:24.64, surpassing Linda Rivero's mark set at the UAB Invitational. Rivero followed closely with a 2:27.23 effort.

Sprints & Hurdles
Jaylen Patterson paced the men in the 60m dash with a time of 7.10, followed by Marcus Thompson Jr. at 7.13 and Jackson Connors also at 7.13 in a tightly packed finish. Ishmeal Neblett represented the Wolves in both hurdle rounds, running 8.56 in the morning for fifth place and returning in the afternoon with an 8.58 performance to place seventh. Zachary Wiggins added an 8.71 effort in the morning hurdles.

In the 400m, Matt Strickland earned second place with a 48.26 run, finishing just one tenth of a second shy of tying his own UWG record. Strickland returned in the 200m to place fifth with a time of 22.19. Abenezer Woellore added a sixth place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:56.54.

For the women, Valeyna Renteria-Silva competed in both hurdle sessions, running 9.80 each time to lead UWG. Freshmen Genesis Price and Lia Long paced the Wolves in the 60m with times of 8.18 and 8.24. Ty Daniel recorded a 59.75 effort in the 400m to place ninth, while Kellie Walker led the 200m group with a sixth place finish in 25.24. She was followed by Campbell Brown at 26.43 and Lia Long at 26.52.

Jumps & Vaults
Gavin Barlow delivered one of the most impressive performances of the day in the men's long jump, earning first place with a leap of 7.35m. Godsfavor Adenuga followed in fourth at 7.05m, while Marcus Thompson Jr. added an eighth place mark of 7.01m to give the Wolves three top ten finishes in the event.

On the women's side, Genesis Price represented UWG in the long jump with a mark of 4.86m. In the pole vault, Mallory Peavey cleared 3.05m to place eighth, followed by Carleigh Bynum in ninth with the same mark.

Throws
Conner Changizi led the men in the shot put with a throw of 10.67m, with Aiden Willis following at 9.38m. The women continued their strong weekend in the weight throw as Day Atkins earned fifth place with a mark of 16.62m. Dru Green followed in ninth at 15.11m, giving the Wolves another pair of top finishes. 

With 12 podium finishes, 15 top five finishes, four gold medals, and six UWG record performances across the weekend, West Georgia leaves Tryon with momentum heading into championship season. UWG returns to action February 27-28 at the ASUN Indoor Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, the final meet of the indoor season.
