CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia men's track and field team is set to open the outdoor season this weekend at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia, marking the first outdoor meet of the year for the Wolves.
Sprints & Hurdles
The Wolves sprint group is led by UWG record holder
Gavin Barlow in the 100m, entering with a time of 10.44.
Jonathan Meadows, the record holder in the 400m hurdles, follows with a 10.68 entry, while
Trey Campbell enters at 10.73,
Vaughn Dickenson Jr. at 10.91,
Michael Willis at 10.94,
Jaylen Patterson at 11.10, and
David Akinyemi rounds out the group with an entry of 11.10.
Kyron Belton,
Jackson Connors, and
Ishmeal Neblett will also compete in the 100m and enter the meet without an entry mark.
In the 200m, Campbell leads the way with a 21.39 entry, followed by Belton at 22.00, Willis at 22.01, Dickenson Jr. at 22.37, Patterson at 22.64, Akinyemi at 22.75, and Godsfavor Adenuga at 23.17. Matt Strickland headlines the 400m with a strong entry of 47.57, while Ricky Griffin follows with a 55.43 mark. Jackson Connors will also compete in the event and enter without an entry time. The hurdles group will be led by Neblett in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.12, followed closely by Landon Chovanic at 15.14, Kellen Andrews at 15.47, and Matthew Brunner at 16.15. In the 400m hurdles, Chovanic enters with a time of 57.27.
Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
In the high jump,
Blake Davis leads the group with a mark of 2.01m, followed by
Isaiah McMichael at 2.00m,
Will Shawley at 1.89m, and
Matthew Brunner at 1.84m.
The pole vault group is led by Connor McLain with an entry of 4.78m, while Kareem Nazim follows at 4.72m, Shea Thiewes enters at 4.48m, and Grayson Greene rounds out the group with a mark of 4.37m. In the long jump, UWG record holder Godsfavor Adenuga leads the field with a mark of 7.56m, followed by Barlow at 7.37m, Marcus Thompson Jr. at 7.03m, Shawley at 6.75m, Davis at 6.55m, Griffin at 6.06m, Conner Changizi at 6.01m, and Andrews at 5.91m. The triple jump group features Thompson Jr. with a 14.91m entry, Adenuga at 14.70m, Davis at 14.29m, and Griffin at 13.64m.
In the throws, Nicholas Lane leads the way as the UWG record holder in the hammer throw with an entry of 50.35m, while also competing in the discus with a mark of 42.11m. Darius Mcneal followed with entries of 31.70m in the discus and 43.96m in the hammer. Changizi will compete in the discus with a mark of 27.31m and also leads the javelin group with an entry of 49.08m. Ethan Butler-Paige and Aiden Willis will compete in the discus without an entry mark, while Butler-Paige will also compete in the javelin without an entry mark.
Distance
The Wolves distance team is led by UWG record holder Abenezar Woellore in the 800m with an entry time of 1:55.
Hyrum Smartt follows closely with a 1:57.14 entry, while
Solomon Johnson enters at 1:57.15,
Felipe Barrios at 1:58,
Evan Beasley at 1:59,
Parker Ferguson at 2:02,
Daniel Murtagh at 2:04.23, and
Gabriel Wrye rounds out the group with a time of 2:08.33.
Woellore also leads the 1500m with an entry of 4:01.39, while Johnson enters with a converted time of 4:01.40, Barrios at 4:07, Beasley at 4:10, Ferguson with a converted mark of 4:15.24, Murtagh at 4:23.00, Wrye at 4:23.43, and Smartt at 4:25.37. In the 5000m, Noah Anderson leads the Wolves with a time of 15:17.95, followed by UWG record holder Aiden Thaxton at 15:52.35, Tyler Jones at 15:55, and Aiden Pickett at 16:20. Alex Njoroge will also compete in the event and enters without an entry time.
Relays
UWG will also showcase strong relay teams, bringing two 4x100m relay teams that each enter with a time of 40.51, along with three 4x400m relay teams highlighted by a top entry of 3:12.71 and additional teams entering at 3:30.
