West Georgia Sits Third After Day One of Bulldog Invitational

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- With seven top-five finishes, three event wins, and four personal bests, the University of West Georgia women's track and field team sits in third place after day one of the Bulldog Invitational with 59 total points, just three behind host UNC Asheville. Day two will once again be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Jumps & Throws
In the high jump, Nneka Okafor was the lone performer for the Wolves and secured UWG's first top-five finish of the day with a mark of 1.43m. In the hammer throw, Day Atkins earned UWG's first event win of the meet, taking first place with an impressive throw of 49.77m. The reigning ASUN Field Performer of the Week was followed by Kyla Ford, who placed third with a throw of 46.10m. Leilah Mathieu rounded out the group with a mark of 37.43m.

Sprints & Hurdles
In the 100m hurdles, Empress Malone was the only Wolf to compete in the event and finished with a time of 15.85. In the 200m, Kellie Walker claimed first place with a time of 24.31, a personal best that sits just 0.04 seconds shy of the UWG record set in 2016. She was followed by reigning ASUN Freshman of the Week Elise Duncanson, who placed fourth in 24.53. Campbell Brown rounded out the group with a season-best time of 24.94.

Distance
In the 1500m, UWG record holder Reatta Danhof took first place with a time of 4:44.09. Linda Rivero was the next Wolf to finish in 5:07.79, while Jordan Jarnot rounded out the group in 5:29.93. UWG added two more top-five finishes in the 3000m steeplechase, as Kathrin Maurer recorded a season-best time of 11:42.96 to finish third. Haley Hartman followed in fourth with a personal-best time of 12:08.12. In the 5000m, Catherine Greer led the Wolves with a personal-best time of 18:33.46. Laney Pierce followed with a season-best time of 19:59.71, and Madeline Gaskin posted a personal-best time of 20:39.95.
