This matchup between UWG (14-38, 6-15 ASUN) and the Royals (12-32, 4-17 ASUN) comes after an earlier matchup this season where Queens took a series victory 2-1 in late March.
In the Wolves' last outing, they came up short against the North Florida Ospreys, 2-1 after opening the series in impressive fashion with a 6-4 statement victory on Friday.
Dixiana Sims sparked the early momentum for West Georgia, blasting a bases-clearing triple to give the Wolves a lead they would hold wire to wire. In the circle,
Cacie Cutright struck out four batters in a strong performance, while
Calli Hardison secured the save, closing out the game with three shutout innings.
In this upcoming series,
Cacie Cutright will be a pivotal piece in UWG's success, leading the team in strikeouts and ranking fourth in the ASUN Conference in strikeouts looking with 27. Despite being a freshman, Cutright has quickly become a go-to arm in high-pressure moments, delivering key performances throughout the season. Her signature outing came against Florida Gulf Coast earlier this season, where she tossed a complete game to secure a crucial series win for the Wolves at home.
Jenna Samuel will also be a key factor in this weekend's matchups, ranking in the top 10 of the ASUN Conference with a .398 batting average and a .487 on-base percentage. Samuel's ability to set the tone early will be crucial for the Wolves as they look to jump out to a strong start.
The Queens Royals enter the weekend following a series sweep against Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, falling 3-0. Despite that setback, Lindsay Henson remains a major threat and will be a driving force for the Royals. Widely regarded as one of the top hitters in the ASUN Conference, Henson is batting .401 with 15 home runs this season and will look to continue her standout production in this weekend's series.
With this marking the season finale for both squads, it will be a hard-fought series as each team looks to close the year on a high note and carry momentum into the next season.
The Wolves will also be honoring their senior class on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., recognizing
Emma Nixon,
Sky Ramos,
Madison McDonald,
Zekylah Boyd,
Emerson Miller,
Calli Hardison, and
Kristen Fowler for their contributions to the program.
