CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia men's track and field team put together a dominant opening day at the UWG Legends Meet on Friday, recording one first-place finish and 13 top-five finishes to take a commanding lead heading into day two.
Distance
The men's team started the day in the 3000m run, where UWG swept all five top spots in the event. Freshman
Alex Njoroge finished first while setting a new UWG record with a time of 8:45.38. He was followed by
Noah Anderson at 8:51.19,
Solomon Johnson at 9:12.61,
Aiden Thaxton at 9:17.49, and
Aiden Pickett at 9:53.40.
In the 1500m, Abenezer Woellore led UWG with a fifth-place finish in 4:02.19. Felipe Barrios followed at 4:06.38, and Daniel Murtagh rounded out the group with a time of 4:15.74.
Sprints & Hurdles
In the 400m hurdles,
Landon Chovanic was the lone representative for the Wolves and finished in 56.80, moving into the top five in the ASUN in the event.
In the 200m, Gavin Barlow placed third with a time of 21.81. Marcus Thompson Jr. followed at 22.35, and Vaughn Dickenson Jr. rounded out the top finishers at 22.38.
Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
In the shot put,
Nicholas Lane led UWG with a mark of 11.16m, followed closely by
Conner Changizi at 11.08m.
Kellen Andrews rounded out the group with a mark of 10.74m.
In the hammer throw, Lane delivered a throw of 43.10m to earn second place. Darius Mcneal followed closely with a throw of 43.09m to take third, while Ethan Butler-Paige recorded a mark of 38.50m.
In the triple jump, UWG recorded two top-five finishes. Godsfavor Adenuga led the way with a leap of 14.48m to take fourth and now ranks first in the ASUN in the event. Thompson Jr. added a mark of 14.19m to take fifth, while Ricky Griffin narrowly missed the top five with a jump of 13.95m.
In the javelin, Conner Changizi claimed third place with a throw of 47.14m. Ethan Butler-Paige finished fifth with a mark of 37.57m, and Matthew Brunner recorded a throw of 35.97m.
The Wolves closed day one of the UWG Legends Meet with 89 total points and hold first place by 50 points.
