CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia men's and women's track and field programs are both coming off first-place finishes at the fifth annual UWG Legends Meet. Combined, the two teams recorded 54 top-five finishes, 14 event wins, and nearly 450 points while winning the meet by nearly 200 points. Following that outstanding performance, UWG earned three ASUN weekly honors.

On the men's side, Alex Njoroge was named ASUN Freshman of the Week. The Villa Rica native competed in the 3000m at the Legends Meet and led the field with a time of 8:45.38. The performance earned him a first-place finish and a new UWG school record in the event. Njoroge also competed in the 800m, where he crossed the line in 1:56.88 for a new personal best. In the previous meet at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, he posted a time of 15:02.59 in the 5000m, making him the second-fastest freshman in the conference.

On the women's side, Day Atkins earned ASUN Field Performer of the Week after an impressive showing in Carrollton. Already the UWG record holder in the discus and coming off a freshman season that saw her earn ASUN MVP honors, Atkins continued her strong form at the Legends Meet. She won the shot put with a throw of 13.58m, placed second in the discus with a mark of 43.46m, and added another second-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 50.23m. Following the weekend, Atkins now ranks fifth in the conference in the shot put, third in the discus, and seventh in the hammer throw.

Rounding out the Wolves' trio of honors, Elise Duncanson was named ASUN Freshman of the Week. Duncanson is coming off a historic weekend at the UWG Track and Field Complex, where she opened the meet by winning the 400m and breaking her own school record in the event. She now ranks fourth in the ASUN in the 400m and is the second-fastest freshman in the conference. Duncanson continued her standout weekend in the 4x400m relay, anchoring the Wolves to a first-place finish and another UWG school record. She also posted a time of 25.04 in the 200m, moving into the top five in the conference while also ranking as the second-fastest freshman in that event.
