UWG Heads to Bulldog Invitational in Asheville

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia track and field team is coming off a dominant performance at the fifth annual UWG Legends Meet, recording 25 top-five finishes and three event victories on the way to a first-place team finish at the UWG Track Complex. West Georgia returns to action this Friday and Saturday, April 10-11, with competition beginning at 12:15 p.m. at the Bulldog Invitational in Asheville, North Carolina, hosted by UNC Asheville.

Last Meet
The Wolves' most recent competition came at the fifth annual UWG Legends Meet, where West Georgia secured first place with 193.5 points, winning the meet by more than 70 points.

UWG saw two school records fall at the meet, beginning with Alex Njoroge, who set a new program record in the 3000m with a time of 8:45.38 to take first place. Gavin Barlow also tied the UWG long jump record with a mark of 7.56m, earning first place and matching the record previously set by Godsfavor Adenuga last season. 

Wolves to Watch 

Sprints
In the 100m, Gavin Barlow sets the pace for UWG and ranks second in the ASUN with a season-best time of 10.56. Barlow also holds the school record in the event at 10.44 and is eighth in the conference in the 200m with a time of 21.81.

Matt Strickland leads the Wolves in the 400m and is fourth in the conference with a time of 48.50. Jackson Connors is the fourth-fastest freshman in the 400m, posting a time of 49.80.

Landon Chovanic ranks among the top 10 in the conference in the 400m, sits just outside the top 10 in the 110m hurdles at 15.46, and is fifth in the ASUN in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.80.

Vaughn Dickenson Jr. is eighth in the conference in the 100m with a time of 10.79, while Michael Willis ranks 10th in the ASUN at 10.84.

Distance
Alex Njoroge was recently named ASUN Freshman of the Week after breaking the UWG record in the 3000m in his last outing. He also ranks as the second-fastest freshman in the conference in the 5000m with a time of 15:02.59.

Jumps & Vaults
In the high jump, Isaiah McMichael leads UWG with a season-best clearance of 2.00m, ranking third in the conference. Blake Davis follows in fourth at 1.96m and is the top freshman in the conference. In the pole vault, UWG leads the conference with Kareem Nazim and Connor McLain tied for first at 4.70m.

In the long jump, UWG's top four ranks 13th in the nation according to the USTFCCCA Event Group Rankings. The group includes Barlow at 7.56m, which leads the ASUN and is tied for 40th in the nation, Adenuga at 7.50m, which ranks second in the conference and is tied for 47th nationally, Marcus Thompson Jr. at 7.08m, placing him sixth in the conference, and Matthew Brunner at 6.64m.

In the triple jump, the Wolves rank ninth nationally according to USTFCCCA. Adenuga leads the group with a mark of 14.48m and is second in the conference. Thompson Jr. follows at 14.19m in fourth, Ricky Griffin sits fifth at 14.07m, and Davis rounds out the group at 13.99m as the top freshman in the conference.

Multis
In the decathlon, Matthew Brunner ranks third in the conference with 5709 points, Kellen Andrews is fourth with 5566 points, and Changizi sits fifth with 4612 points. Changizi also ranks fifth in the ASUN in the javelin with a throw of 47.14m.

Relays
West Georgia's 4x100m relay team ranks second in the conference, with the A team of Willis, Dickenson Jr., Connors, and Barlow posting a time of 40.94.

In the 4x400m relay, UWG sits third in the conference as Connors, Campbell, Chovanic, and Strickland combined for a time of 3:24.12.
