Wolves Head to Atlanta For a Three-Match Road Swing

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia volleyball hits the road for the first time in 2026 this weekend, taking on Alabama A&M and Kennesaw State on Friday (Sept. 4) at KSU before heading to Atlanta to face Georgia State on their home court the following day. UWG (1-2) looks to get back on track after falling in the final two matches of the past weekend's home tournament. Leading the Pack on offense through the opening weekend of play is outside hitter Valiree Schmus. Through three games, Schmus leads UWG in points (47), kills (40) and points per set (3.92). This past weekend, she also set a new career-high of 19 kills vs Grambling State (Aug. 28). Defensively, the Wolves were anchored by libero Giorgia Mandotti and middle blocker Milena Cetkovic. Mandotti finished the weekend recording a team-high 40 digs, highlighted by a season-best 20 digs against Grambling State (Aug. 28). Playing in ten sets in the UWG Tournament, Cetkovic ended the weekend with a team-high nine blocks, featuring a four-block performance vs Northwestern State (Aug. 28).

The Wolves' first matchup on Friday has the Pack taking on a red-hot Alabama A&M (3-0) team at 11 a.m. at KSU. The Bulldogs have kicked off 2026 undefeated after securing home victories over Maryland Eastern Shore, South Carolina State and North Carolina Central. A&M is currently led in points by outside hitter Rayishon Jackman with 38.5 points fueled by 30 kills and a team-high seven service aces. Middle blocker Cherrish Robinson has taken care of business for the Bulldogs on defense. Currently, Robinson leads A&M and the Southwestern Athletic Conference with 12 blocks. It is also worth noting that A&M takes on North Alabama prior to this weekend's game against the Wolves.

Following the clash with A&M, UWG is set to face off against the Kennesaw State Owls (3-0) at 6 p.m. on Friday. Like with the Bulldogs, KSU is also heading into the weekend undefeated after beating The Citadel, UNC Wilmington and Le Moyne. Three games in and the Owls are led in scoring by right side hitter Haley Patterson, who leads KSU with 40 points fueled by a team-best 38 kills. Despite being a freshman, defensive specialist Alexis Sowers showed out in her first collegiate tournament last weekend. Through three games, she leads KSU with 35 digs, over twice as many as the next Owl.

West Georgia's Atlanta road swing is set to close out with a Saturday match against the Georgia State Panthers (0-3) on their home court. Heading into the weekend, GSU is still searching for their first victory of 2026. Right side hitter Akira Burt leads the Panthers with 45 points, powered by a team-high 39 kills. Defensively, right side hitter Jayden Eaker leads the Panthers and ranks top-five in the Sun Belt Conference with 11 blocks, highlighted by a four-block performance against Rice (Aug. 29). Setter Dariana Valencia leads GSU in digs (42).
