Soccer Begins Preseason Practice on Friday

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The 2019-20 athletic year is off and running, and the UWG women's soccer team reported to campus today for move-in, physicals, and their first team activities, and are set to open practice on Friday morning at 8 a.m.

The Wolves, led by third-year head coach Stacey Balaam, have just a day over four weeks until the season opener at Young Harris as they look to improve on last season's sixth place finish in the Gulf South Conference.

Yesterday, the GSC announced the annual Preseason Coaches' Poll, and the league's coaches picked UWG in a sixth-place tie. West Florida received 12 first place votes and was picked as the preseason favorite.

Headlining the UWG roster in 2019 is returning All-GSC performer Jazmine Santiago. The Augusta native scored 9 goals as a sophomore in 2018, leading the team in that category and in points with 22 as she added four assists on the year.

Santiago and the Wolves open the season on Thursday, September 5 on the road at Young Harris. That game is set to kick off at 2 p.m.
