Carrollton, GA - Dynamite day was successful at West Georgia, as the Wolves offense exploded against Tiffin to take the first two games in the series, 13-11 and 8-5. The Wolves snapped a four game losing streak and take all momentum headed into Sunday's series finale.
Game 1 - In the opening game, the Wolves rebounded from an early 6-1 deficit, scoring 12 runs in the final five innings to take a 13-11 victory.
The big blow came in the fourth inning, as the Wolves entered that frame trailing 6-3. #
Phillip Keys# was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, followed by #Danny Bodziak# taking advantage of an error by the pitcher to give the Wolves runners at first and second.
After #
Stuart Drew# grounded out for the first out of the inning, #
Brett Wright# and #
Andy Marinelli# were hit by a pitch back-to-back. Marinelli's scored Keys and loaded the bases for freshman #
Justin Croft#. The first baseman did not disappoint, blasting a home run over the left field wall for a grand slam and an 8-6 lead.
The Wolves added three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to seal the deal. Junior hurler #
Jarrod Parker# worked a scoreless fifth to take the victory and sophomore #
Randall Wright# closed out the game for his first save of the year.
Game 2- As the game one ended with high scoring from West Georgia, the start of game two began the same way for the Wolves in the bottom of the first. As the dust cleared at the close of the day, the Wolves had picked up an 8-5 victory.
Drew got things started with a single to left field, then stole second and then team captain #
Brett Wright#'s bunt single moved Drew to third. That set up catcher #
Andy Marinelli#, as he blasted his second home run of the season over the left center field fence to put the Wolves up 3-0 in the first inning.
The Dragons would battle back and regain the lead in the top of the forth inning with four runs, but the Wolves answered in the bottom half of the frame.
Shortstop #
Bill Redmon# led off with a single and promptly stole second. #
Phillip Keys# grounded out to third moving Redmon to third, followed by a #Danny Bodziak# single to left, bringing in Redmon. Bodziak would advanced to second on a wild pitch and then move over to third on groundball out from Drew. Bodziak would score on a balk, tying the game at five.
The Wolves pitchers did not allow the Dragons to cross the plate the rest of the day. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Marinelli continued his hot streak at the plate leading off with a single and eventually scoring on a Redmon single to center.
Marinelli would solidify the Wolves victory in bottom of the sixth with another single, scoring Drew and Wright. The hot hitting catcher was the star of the game with three hits and five RBI's. Sophomore #
Randall Wright# came in and worked the ninth for the second straight game, claiming his second save.
Wright and Parker carry a unique distinction in West Georgia baseball lore, as Parker picked up both wins and Parker both saves in the doubleheader.
