Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia bats were cold Thursday evening in Americus, GA, as the Wolves fell by a 7-2 count for the second time this season to the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes in a mid-week in-state battle.
The game marked the 12th time this season that the Wolves have faced a team from the Peach Belt Conference. Against those teams, the Wolves are 2-10, with the wins coming over No. 1 Georgia College & State and Montevallo.
The Wolves threatened in the top of the first, as junior #
Stuart Drew# led off the game with a single, then advanced to third on an error by the center fielder. But a pair of infield flyouts and a groundout to shortstop ended the threat with the top hitter in the Gulf South Conference on third.
Drew was 1-for-3 on the evening, scoring the first West Georgia run of the game in the top of the fifth. He walked in that inning, one of two free passes for Drew in the game. Two batters and a stolen base later, #
Andy Marinelli# singled up the middle, scoring Drew for the first run for West Georgia.
On the mound for the Wolves, #
Alex Wilson# took the loss, his first of the season. He allowed six of the Hurricanes' seven runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings. #
Keith Manley# and #
Randall Wright# closed out the game in the final 1.1 innings.
The other UWG run in the game came from a pair of freshman infielders, as third baseman #
Nick Vinson# singled in the sixth, then came home on a double from shortstop #
Bill Redmon# to close out the scoring for the Wolves.
West Georgia now turns it's attention back on the Gulf South Conference, as the Wolves head to Pensacola, FL to take on West Florida this Saturday and Sunday in GSC East action.
