Baseball Weekly: Wolves begin conference play

Carrollton, Ga.- Coming off a weekend sweep against the Tiffin Dragons, the West Georgia Wolves head down south to take on Columbus State Wednesday afternoon at 4 P.M. The Wolves will end the four-game road trip against conference foe Alabama-Huntsville in a weekend series.

The West Georgia Wolves offense bounced back this past weekend against Tiffin, lighting up the scoreboard with a total of 28 runs. Much of the run production from the Wolves primarily came from designated hitter #Justin Croft# and first basemen #Andy Marinelli#. In game one, the momentum shifted with the UWG offense when Croft belted grand slam over the right field fence. The Wolves' designated hitter is hitting .308 with one home run and seven RBI's.

In game two, Marinelli provided the Wolves with a spark in the first inning by blasting a three-run shot over the left center field fence. Mareinelli would later go on and seal the win for the Wolves with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning, capping a five RBI game.

The Wolves head south and look to continue a three-game winning streak and look to win their first road game against the Columbus State Cougars. Last season the Cougars beat the Wolves in all four meetings with the offense scoring 46 total runs. Although, the West Georgia Wolves will also bring a high-powered offense and look to defeat their second ranked opponent of the season.

To end the four-game road trip the Wolves will open Gulf South Conference play in a weekend series against Alabama-Huntsville. The Chargers took the three-game series against Wolves last season. The West Georgia pitchers will look to stop junior infielder Grant DeBruin, who is hitting .447, 23 RBI's, and slugging percentage of .596.
