Valdosta, GA - West Georgia came into the weekend needing a sweep of the Valdosta State Blazers in order to get to the Gulf South Conference tournament in Millington, TN next week, but that dream ended here this afternoon, as the Blazers blasted the Wolves 10-0 in the first game and 12-4 in the second game.
UWG head coach
Skip Fite pulled out all the stops in game one, which was essentially an elimination game for his Wolves. He handed the ball to senior ace #
Jarod Slaven# in game one, a switch as Slaven has started the seven inning game in most instances this season.
The Blazers knocked around Slaven for seven runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings, then continued the offensive explosion with three runs on eight hits against #
Brandon Crumbley# in relief.
On the opposite side, the Wolves' bats went silent against VSU starter Kevin Rogers, picking up just two hits in the opening game.
In the second contest, the Blazers took advantage of five West Georgia errors in taking a 12-4 victory. The Wolves pounded out nine hits in the game, but were unable to stop the VSU momentum as the Blazers scored in double-digits for the fourth straight game against West Georgia's pitching staff.
The Wolves fall to 18-29 overall and 5-14 in Gulf South Conference play. The 2011 season will conclude tomorrow in Valdosta as the two teams play out the remainder of the series.
