Wolves take two in Talladega

Talladega, AL – The West Georgia Wolves' baseball team enjoyed a productive afternoon here Wednesday. UWG used a combination of power, timely hits and solid relief pitching to sweet both ends of their double header from the Talladega Tornadoes.

The Wolves took the opener by a 7-4 margin. Home runs off the bats of Andy Marinelli and Garrett May powered the UWG offense, while reliever Randall Wright earned the victory on the mound.

Game two also featured good work by the Wolves' bullpen. With the score tied 3-3, starter Justin Key exited with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Veteran John Lees came on to squelch the Tornadoes and pick up the victory.

Offensively, Justin Croft was UWG's biggest weapon the nightcap. He had a double, triple, home run and drove in four runs. The freshman from Cartersville was denied in his bid for the cycle as a likely line drive single was speared by a diving catch.

Wednesday's sweep moves the Wolves' record on the season to 11-22. It also marks the team's first back-to-back victories since a sweep of three-game series vs. Tiffin on February 26 and 27.

West Georgia returns to action this weekend with a visit to Jackson, Tenn., and a three-game, non-conference series vs. the Lambuth Eagles. First pitch for Saturday's double-header is set for 2 p.m.
